Elizabeth Cambage has produced one of the best individual performances by a woman on the basketball court at an Olympic games to ensure the Australian Opals continued their winning ways in Rio.

The 24-year-old dominated in the paint racking up the third most points by an individual woman in Olympic competition, finishing with 37 points and 10 rebounds.

Importantly the bulk of her scoring came down the stretch, when her team needed it most.

With Australia trailing by two points at the main break, the Japanese would push their lead out to as much as 16 points entering the final quarter.

The Australians would wrestle the momentum from their opponents early in the fourth, led by Cambage who racked up 18 of her 37 points in the final 10 minutes.

Incredibly, Cambage would outscore her opponents individually in the final quarter, with Japan only managing 15 points in the fourth.

The 32-15 final quarter fightback would secure Australia their fourth straight win in Rio, putting them in a strong position to avoid facing the powerhouse United States side until medals are on offer.

Australia will face Belarus in their final group match on Monday (AEST).
