Cronulla captain Paul Gallen is hoping the Sharks can regain some form heading into next month’s finals after his side suffered its second-straight defeat.
Gallen, who missed Saturday night’s game against the Dragons after injuring his calf during the warm-up, blamed an interrupted Origin period and a tight schedule for the Shark’s form slump.
The 34-year-old said he believed his team could rebound and win its first game since late July when they take on South Sydney on Monday week.
“We’ve just been a little bit disjointed and if we can just get that back together and have a good week and get our training back on track, we can turn it around,” Gallen told the Sunday Footy Show.
“When you look at the past 10 weeks or so, we haven’t trained well or together much as a team throughout that Origin period, we had a big representation there.”
Gallen said the injury to his calf was minor, but would not know if he would be fit to play the Rabbitohs until later in the week.
He said the Sharks’ effort had improved against to the Dragons, but mistakes cost his team.
“I think we defended really well for a set of six when they kicked the ball down field, it was a wobbly-type kick and we made an error and they scored off the back of that,” Gallen said.
Cronulla’s 15-game winning streak was brought to an end in a draw to the Gold Coast Titans in round 21, before the Sharks lost to Canberra.
