Former Manly and Parramatta star Kieran Foran is reportedly on the verge of signing a new NRL contract which would see him return home to New Zealand and play with the Warriors.

While Triple M’s Josh Massoud reported that Foran met with New Zealand officials for a tour of the club’s facilities over a week ago, Rugby League Week’s The Mole has claimed the deal is set to be finalised within the next 24 hours.

“Foran has agreed to a one-year deal, with the Warriors hoping to extend his stay at the club if he succeeds,” The Mole said.

However, the Warriors have denied a contract has been agreed as yet.

Should the Warriors deal turn out to be true, however, the signing would be a major boost for the Warriors, with a number of other sides reportedly interested in luring the Kiwi international to their club.

While the New Zealand club wouldn’t be able to pay Foran as much as he was on at Parramatta, it is believed they have tabled a $600,000 offer for the one season, a figure they can fit in under the cap thanks to the mid-season releases of Thomas Leuluai and Konrad Hurrell.

There are a number of other factors that could help lure Foran to the Warriors. He is good friends with current New Zealand star Shaun Johnson, and the change in clubs would offer him a chance to escape the fierce media attention which comes with playing in Sydney.

Warriors CEO Jim Doyle is also a potential ace in the hole for the New Zealand club. Last month, Doyle revealed he was helping Foran through the issues which contributed to the Parramatta star seeking a release from the Eels midway through this season.

“I have been talking to Kieran for quite some time, helping him work through the issues he’s had,” Doyle said in August.

“I’ll continue to talk to him through these issues.”

Before any deal can be finalised, Foran must first prove to the NRL he is mentally fit enough to make a return to the competition.
