Final score
Sydney Swans 18.10 (118)
Adelaide Crows 12.10 (82)
The Sydney Swans will be intent on bouncing back from their disappointing first-week finals loss when they take on the Adelaide Crows in a do-or-die semi-final at the SCG. Join The Roar for all our live scores and blog from 7:25pm (AEST).
The winner of this must-win clash will go on to face Geelong next week, while the loser will be packing up the locker room for another year. With so much to play for in this game, expect a high-quality encounter from two of the best teams in the competition form 2016.
Sydney have had the recent wood over Adelaide, winning four of the last five encounters, however the Crows took the one and only game these two sides played earlier this year in what was one of the best games of the season back in Round 4.
The Swans lost their qualifying final last week to the Giants by 36 points in a game they were favoured to win, and the consequences have been heavy. Sydney lost two key players to injuries during the game, with Kurt Tippett and Rising Star winner Callum Mills both leaving the game early. Both have been ruled out for tonight.
Adelaide, on the other hand, were facing a North Melbourne side which was no match for the Crows’ Eddie Betts-led attack. The little master kicked six goals, Tom Lynch chipped in with four of his own, and Adelaide cruised to an easy win over the Kangaroos.
Lance Franklin will want to put last week’s poor game behind him and help lead the Swans to another preliminary final against Geelong. It will be a tough game for him going against Daniel Talia, but these big games are what Buddy lives for.
Prediction
Sydney do have the home ground advantage, but the Adelaide Crows will be looking to show the rest of the AFL that they still mean business after being one of the form sides for most of the year.
