Sydney’s soaked in rain and Melbourne’s freezing – what better than a weekend on the couch watching the world’s greatest athletes? It’s also great when the weekend begins on Thursday! Socceroos and footy of all codes… which tunes are we cranking as the soundtrack to our sport viewing this week?

Flawless – The Ones
I’m jumping the gun here – let’s see if I can put the mozz on the NBA!

There are possibly more songs I really love that can adequately describe the Golden State Warriors’ playoff series, but I haven’t heard this song in ages and it deserves to be seen as a modern house classic.

A brilliantly influential song – possibly not as brilliant as Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson and company though. What a roster they’ve created over the last three years. Two titles and a runners’ up over that period, all ultimately against a champion Cavs side featuring LeBron James. That makes the stats even greater. No side in any of the four US pro sports has ever held a 15-0 playoff run. Go Dubs.

Cold As Ice – Foreigner
Queen’s Birthday Monday means Melbourne versus Collingwood to Victorians.

The #FreezeMND initiative has been so fantastically embraced over the last three years and touchingly championed by Neale Daniher. His bravery in accepting this role as a public voice to help sufferers of this horrible terminal disease brings tears to the eyes. Neale’s battled longer than many thought possible.

I learned this week that a former high school friend of mine was diagnosed with MND in May. The guy’s 34 years old and has been told his body will completely deteriorate over the next 2-5 years and there’s no cure.

The Big Freeze has become a staple event in the annual Melbourne calendar. Australian champions including Lleyton Hewitt, Andrew Gaze, Alisa Camplin and more will slide in to 0-degree water at the MCG to raise money for research into Motor Neuron Disease. It’s great family entertainment for a very necessary cause. Find out more.

Rain – Dragon
Being sung to the Australian ODI side and their opposition in England this week – “Don’t you go out in the rain…” Looks like we’re a very real chance of failing to qualify without even losing a match! If you can’t play for long enough, you also can’t earn wins.

Concrete and Clay – Martin Plaza
My tribute to the clay at Roland Garros and the French Open Tennis on currently! Here we’ve seen Sam Stosur dominate on the surface again, only to succumb to a hand injury. Old mate Kyrgios has cracked a wobbly again, but Rafa also has, proving nobody is immune. Can the King of Clay continue his French dominance??

This song has been recorded by many artists but this is the version that makes my most happy!

Can you think of any other great songs that should be on this week’s sporting soundtrack? Have your say below or tweet @TheSongNerd.
