The NBL continues to go from strength to strength, and the 2017-18 season is shaping up as the best one yet. It’s set to tip-off with the season opener between the Adelaide 36ers and Melbourne United on Thursday, October 5 at 7:30pm (AEDT).

The Perth Wildcats are the defending champions, having won the last two seasons, but Melbourne United will head into 2017-18 as favourites.

While the regular season is scheduled to conclude on Sunday, February 18, a three-match semi-final series and five-match grand final series will take the season into March before it concludes.

How to watch the season on TV

Matches are played from Thursday to Sunday each week, with a few Monday night games scheduled throughout the season. There is also a one-off on Boxing Day, which happens to be a Tuesday as Melbourne United face the Brisbane Bullets.

Rounds vary between five and seven matches, and every match of the season will be broadcast live on Fox Sports 503.

Regardless of which rounds it is, there will be a match every week on Saturday at 5:30pm (AEDT), and another on Sunday afternoon at 3pm (AEDT). Both of these will be broadcast on SBS, with the Saturday game on Viceland (Channel 32) and the Sunday game on SBS (Channel 30 in high definition and 31 in standard definition).

It has also been announced that the ABC will broadcast a Friday night game on delay from 11pm (AEDT) each weekend.

This means the NBL has more free-to-air coverage than at any time in the past decade, while keeping every game live on Fox Sports.

To watch Fox Sports’ coverage of the NBL season, you will need a valid Foxtel TV subscription which includes the sports package.

How to live stream the season online

As is the case with TV coverage, every game will be shown live on Foxtel Now or the Foxtel app. These are Foxtel’s streaming services.

Foxtel Now is better to use if you don’t already have a TV subscription, while the app is better to use if you do have a TV subscription, as it’s included in your package.

Sports on Foxtel Now starts from $29 per month.

If you want to watch SBS’ coverage of their live games, you will be able to do so through SBS on Demand.

An alternative to watch every game live online will be NBL TV. This costs $5 per month.
