Sydney FC have another home game for Friday night football, after a Sydney derby that had everything except a winner in round 3, and they will be host to Perth Glory, who picked up their first win of the season last round, at home. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 7:50pm (AEDT).

Sydney again find themselves with another unbeaten start to the season, however all is not as convincing for the Sky blues as they were in their dominant season 16/17.

Sydney, who prided themselves on a defence that simply did not concede goals, conceding only four goals at home last season, have leaked four in their last two home games alone.

Sydney faces a Perth team that will be brimming with confidence, after a win off the back of two hard fought away trips in the opening two rounds.

Adam Taggart, with three goals in two games, is finding form, while Andy Keogh rose to the occasion against the Mariners, after a slow start to the campaign.

Counter-attacking football was the order of the day against the Mariners, and against the reigning premier, there’s no reason to think Lowe and the Glory won’t stick to a formula that is working for them.

Confidence is a funny thing. Sydney will likely be of a more positive frame of mind coming off the derby.

They came back from 2-nil down to dominate the game, steal a point, and put themselves in position to get the win.

Yet at the same time, they did allow themselves to be 2-nil down, and looking like going even further behind.

So while they finished the stronger, they’ll know that they’ve been sloppy in their last two games, and if they keep up that attitude, it could come back to bite them.

While the hard taskmaster that is Graham Arnold won’t be upset about an unbeaten start to the title defence, anything less than ta win here will be considered unacceptable for a coach that sets extremely high standards.

For Kenny Lowe, the same mantra remains: win every game at home that you can (mission accomplished so far), and pick up points where possible away.

He will like Glory’s chances tonight, on the back of some of that confidence that Sydney may find to be the rarest of intangible commodities.

Prediction
With Melbourne setting the pace to the season for three wins from three, Sydney should be eager to keep up, and win this, but as Perth have shown so far this season, they are a hard and tough team that you cannot easily discount.

In fact, if Perth were playing a Sydney team with a point to prove from last weekend, I’d almost be tempted to back the Glory.

Sydney is on a six game winning streak against Perth, and they should be strong enough and skilled enough to maintain that winning feeling.

Sydney 2-1. Just.
