McCaw and Burger (and the like) will soon learn that trying to slow the ball at the breakdown is counter-productive. Refs are pinging guys not rolling away very quickly (they were instructed at a SANZAR meeting to have a zero tolerance on this), so by slowing the ball, they will actually speed up the game by giving away a free kick and making their boys run back 10m. Hopefully this will give us cleaner rucks. Maybe not as effective as a good rucking, but thats for another thread… 🙂
