The finale we deserve: My grand final preview

What a lad! And curse that preseason game!

Six talking points from AFL Round 15

Yeah I don’t get it, I’ve watched it a number of times, it is a perfectly legal spoil. As he jumps he has eyes on the ball and he contacts the ball before the player. Incidental contact is meaningless in this situation.

Umpires completely miss a high Liam Ryan bump that floored a Bulldogs forward

Yeah I’ll admit Steele is decent, I guess I was just going off Saints issues this year and no one getting much media attention there.

AFL combined team (Part 3)

I normally like your stuff Doran but why would you choose 2 B grade players as your followers? Especially when you could have had the best follower at the moment in Liberatore instead.
I realise that it’s tough picking 3 players from each team and that might have forced your hand for 1, but both makes it seem like you picked your followers last

AFL combined team (Part 3)

What are you talking about??

I’m clearly advocating for things to change as little as possible, I was simply saying that knowing how the AFL operates I could see them doing something stupid around bans for Screamers that make head contact. I don’t want that, but if Dusty gets KO’d this round by someone taking a screamer on him you can bet that the media will start a witch hunt and that the AFL will react and ban whoever does it.

Six talking points from AFL Round 9

I’m not trying to say that at all, I wrote in my first sentence no one wants to see screamers go. What I was saying is that coaches and players probably need to take some responsibility in how they go about it, the McCarthy mark didn’t need to hit him in the head and if he adjusted his technique slightly it could have been avoided, that is all.

I only raised it because one day a high profile player is going to get KO’d and then the media will jump on it and then the AFL will react and start banning anyone for screamers that make head high contact and then players will be dis-incentivised from going for screamers and another part of our game will be ruined

Six talking points from AFL Round 9

I understand that entirely and I wouldn’t want to see rules put in place to stop it but that is the direction the AFL will go if coaches and players don’t make a choice to avoid it. They have said you can’t knock the head, which is a direct result of players suing once their career is done and they start showing signs of brain damage, and the AFL, being a business, doesn’t want that.

Six talking points from AFL Round 9

I’ve got a talking point, Screamers and head contact.

No one wants to see screamers get pushed out of the game but 2 of the nominations for mark of the year this round left someone holding their head in pain. I reckon it’s in the best interest of the sport to start self regulating that before someone gets knocked out and the AFL throws a rule in to stop “dangerous” screamers.

By self regulating I just mean through coaches and player efforts, because personally Lincoln Mcarthy’s mark looked dangerous, the first point of contact was knee and head, technically speaking that’s a free for high contact. I think he should be coached to make sure his knee is further left or right and hit shoulder not head.

Six talking points from AFL Round 9

For their team-mates

Why do forwards and defenders bother turning up for award nights?

On the Dogs, what I’m most impressed with this year is their reliability, when they’re favourites you no longer have to worry about them stumbling over some bottom 4 opponent. Just look at this week, I reckon they could really do a number on the Saints just by their relentless 4 quarter effort. Only way saints win is if they play a blinder and even then I wouldn’t put it past the dogs to steal it in the 4th.

Six talking points from AFL Round 9

I got 7 last week as well, missed on GC and Melbourne… this week we have a few differences though. Also I’m tempted to tip North but not quite brave enough.

The Roar's AFL expert tips and predictions: Round 7

I reckon we might see him debut next week against Carlton, noticed Naughton was dropped to the backline on the teamsheet this week.

'He'd dominate': Does Jamarra Ugle-Hagan's latest VFL bag prove he's ready for the big time?

Good job last week, was a difficult round. I ended with 6, missed out on GWS, Carlton and Melbourne. Didn’t trust the first 2 with the travel and figured Melbourne is Melbourne, but they’re putting it together nicely now.

The Roar's AFL expert tips and predictions: Round 5

Top 4 in 2 games? It’s like you forget the other 16 teams play on the weekend as well. Even if you beat the Crows the highest you will get is 6th with a percentage boosting win over North and all other results going your way.

Six talking points from Round 4 of the AFL

Yeah, I thought it was a decent tackle and that Berry tried to stay standing which caused the issue, but on another look I see CD’s leg go under him and then the hip contact sends Berry up and over. Guess that’s where the strife started, but I don’t agree with the incident report, Berry played out the game and no high contact was made by CD… anyway I think they should challenge.

Six talking points from Round 4 of the AFL

What’s your take on the CD ban? I think it’s a joke personally

Six talking points from Round 4 of the AFL

Yeah…

Was Caleb Daniel right to be suspended for this dangerous tackle?

Cheers just found out I’ve gone 6-8-6… not to shabby

The Roar's AFL expert tips and predictions: Round 4

I can’t figure out why you wrote this Don, do you just enjoy stating the obvious? or are you bemoaning his choice not to list it as significant? if the later I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone who would.

What you might have missed from Round 3 of the AFL season

Yes cherry picking, because you went immediately to an extreme, talking about all matches should be in NSW and again now with your repetition of everything being wrong. You seem to have failed to realise that it’s a lot more nuanced then that.

Also I don’t hate Victoria, I go for the bulldogs, just am tired of the negativity some people put out there at the idea of the AFL doing anything positive outside of Victoria

The TIO Stadium 'Dreamtime' fixture should be permanent

“So for you Another Paul all games should be in NSW”
Don’t try to speak for me as you have clearly got no clue. All I did was call you out for doing the usual “FOOTY IS VICTORIAN” chant and trying to sound like everybody else is simply virtue signalling, when the definition of virtue signalling is saying or showing that you support something once but then not actually supporting it with your actions continually, which is the exact thing you advocated for.

Now I realise that the AFL is in the business of making money and so they will likely follow your preferred choice because it just so happens that most of the time the business of making money is also the business of virtue signalling.

As for your stats anyone can cherry pick stats. For example if you turn that into percentages suddenly the NT is on top. The point of my post was to say if we’re celebrating the Aboriginal culture it makes sense to celebrate it somewhere their culture exists, that includes many places in Australia.
NT 30.5 %
TAS 5.5%
QLD 4.3%
WA 3.8%
NSW 3.5%
SA 2.9%
ACT 1.8%
VIC 0.9

The TIO Stadium 'Dreamtime' fixture should be permanent

Except, when you say it like that, it seems like it is just the regular 85000 at a Richmond vs Essendon game celebrating footy in Melbourne and not wanting it to leave. And then enjoying the warm and fuzzy’s of attaching the dream-time moniker to it. Rather then, you know, celebrating the aboriginal culture where they actually are, that would be ludicrous, oh except for when Melbourne is stuck in a pandemic.

The TIO Stadium 'Dreamtime' fixture should be permanent

I’m not so confident on the dogs. They do start the year quite well normally but a decent half season hasn’t got me sold that they’ve got their socks pulled up and are ready to mix it at the top.

I don’t doubt they’re getting there in terms of player skill, but mental fortitude seems to be a weakness. Maybe Bont as captain and a bit of mongrel from Dunks, Libba and Wallace will push them up the ladder this year but if they don’t find that killer edge they’re going to end as also rans.

Western Bulldogs vs Collingwood: Friday night forecast

Yeah did not expect that either. And man Bevo must like Cordy for him to get a game, I reckon Cordy must deliver Bevo’s coffee every morning, It’s a disgrace.
