Always room for an experienced player at a World Cup. Obviously not a starter but experience is crucial and can be handy for crucial times in matches. Sure we have a hard group and if Ange writes off our chances he should only stick to players who will play some part in our future, but if he has any ambition of getting results at this World Cup, he can do worse than picking a leader who has been to 2 tournaments before.

Has the World Cup plane already left Lucas behind?

I don’t think it is a worthwhile decision for NRL to expand just for the sake of being the ‘Australian game’ when profitable markets are ignored to achieve this. For example, the Central Coast are crying out for a team and the old Bears fans are desperate for a team to support again, so this is much more a safer long term decision than shoehorning a team into a region that isn’t pushing for one and has other sports established, such as Perth or Adelaide. I agree these areas should eventually have teams, and the Perth time zone is an exciting marketing/scheduling opportunity, but these areas in demand of teams should not be ignored eg Central Coast, Brisbane etc… Ideally the balance of Sydney teams should be reduced to achieve this. In saying that, it is sad to see so much history of this game fall by the wayside by way of foundation clubs etc… Having little identity, so no decision will be a popular one.

NRL expansion a matter of numbers, not feelings
