Yeah it seems that alot of teams took risk today, and jessee while good, doesnt seem to have alot of “potential” in the sense that his physicality is his best asset and you kinda know what you will get at NFL level. Hopefully a good D team picks him up.

It may be common sense from a development sense. But you need the same brand on the jerseys to attract the fans. an examplke, as a raiders fan, i don’t want to watch the mounties play with their 3 or 4 sub standard raiders players. I want to see anothony milford, in a raiders jersey, carving it up. I am 1–% sure each club has a few players like this. Additionally, It is alot easier to market as casual fans can support the same team as the NRL club theyre there to see without confusion. If it needs a change, make it u23’s but you cannot change any of the branding or team structure.

It is about bringing young players into a professional environment, and developing 17/18 years olds to a higher standard than SG ball etc. Not quality. Plus, who doesnt like seeing tries scored?

WIZ: Dave Smith, U20s Cup needs an overhaul

So why no Monstar first round? What happened, most of the stuff i read put him in the second halve?

Definitely agree and i do think six is too extreme but it helps make the point. As a young one i don’t remember too much of the intricacies of 90’s league, But for me i think if rule changes commonly saw most benches holding two mobile/impact forwards, and two impact utilities, The game would have a good mix.

As for repeated dummy halve running, “Finals Footy” as G Gould calls it, for me it is the best style of game as it brings about two things.

– A desperation that just cant be attained through typical prop-for-prop swap every 18 minutes
– Could help reduce interference/wrestling due to go forward and one-on-one plays

As for this to all work, we would need the coaches mentality to be “work, work, work” not “swap swap swap”

WIZ: League's brain-dead ploys are stifling the attack

And replace who? I could elaborate but simply put,

You don’t change a winning combination.

Straight-shooting Maguire leading the way at South Sydney

Don’t forget S. Smith.

those three would be formidable. Amla would be King of the Ducks!

Clarke justifiably the world's best

The real question is, how do the tactics change if say interchange dropped to six per game. Does the bench get stacked with 2nd rowers, or more utility players? I for one think that not only would it benefit players like sandow, segearyo (sp?) and sam williams, but forwards like Joel thompson/Greg bird/Hoffman would excel even more in the middle of the park. And on the other hand, does this lead to more teams kicking the ball dead (one improvement making a negative worse?)

Anything to get the speed up, and change the dynamics, will lead to more creativity and points.

WIZ: League's brain-dead ploys are stifling the attack

Luke Lewis, Greg Bird, Hincliffe, Reynolds (either of them)…. Hell i don’t even rate Josh McCrone but the way he played hooker 2nd half against the roosters, i would rather him on the bench than Gidley.

Going to be interesting to see how Daley goes, if he names a good backrow and bench and they perform, we might have a chance.

Why is Mitchell Pearce guaranteed an Origin spot?

It baffles me how people still want someone like Gidley near the NSW team. Seriously, how is he even an option? Sure he might be a jack of all trades, but NSW need creativity and impact from the bench and there is no way he has the ability to perform at a higher standard than any QLD player in similar positions. QLD will have someone like Barba or DCE off the bench, and you want Gidley? There is a reason NSW have lost so many series’ in a row, and selections like Gidley are key to that.

Time for NSW to get rid of the safe players like B.morris, Gidley, jennings and pearce and build a team designed to win, not lose safely.

Why is Mitchell Pearce guaranteed an Origin spot?

Personally, i thought we should have gutted the team after ’06 and started with the young ones. How we played last night highlights how badly Australias development has progressed (backwards) and i honestly cant believe that players like bresch are still around, yet oar, kruse, rogic and co are not being used properly. We are going to miss out on taking a young exciting team to the world cup because we are to scared to rebuild a team. what a joke.

Socceroos v Oman: The good, the bad, the ugly and the summary

I couldn’t believe how many metres around the ruck St-george were making around the raiders..yet minimal support play and no creativity from soward, who seemed more interested in going through the motions than chasing the game. It seemed to me in pre-season that that price wanted to be a bit more expansive, yet all he seems to have done is ruined their discipline that made them so successful.

PRICHARD: Beale, Dugan - can anyone help the free-falling Dragons?

Ironically this might be the case, even though Dugan would have had as much stability as he could have asked for in Canberra. I can see him going to Brisbane just because he wants a big city feel to his life. As a 23 year old living in Canberra i can tell you, it gets mighty boring mighty quick..even more so if i had 500k in my bank.

PRICHARD: Beale, Dugan - can anyone help the free-falling Dragons?

My bad, in my monday morning haze i confused sin-bin and a send off. Either way, it was neither.

How hard is hard enough in the NRL?

Send offs are for professional fouls or cooling off. It was the same as any other high tackle, which goes on report and penalty given. Also helped that it was a head clash and not shoulder to head contact.

I guess in wondering what other part of Rl Docs would approve of, you can take the approach of comparing it to Tobacco and Alcohol..in that one is always going to damage you, no matter what (Smoking) and the other can be bad, but in moderation has no harm (Alcohol). It is the same for the head in RL, which can be damaged with a single hit, Where as most other injuries or dame will give you some bad joints.

Unfortunately with the new evidence emerging, the NRL has no choice but to take action or open itself to future legal issues. Thankfully the refs seem to only be penalising when the charge is on a kicker or makes contact with the head, but i can also see this leading to inconsistencies in the future.

As for the hit, was great minus the head contact. Will be a shame to see them slowly leave the game. but i can live without it.

How hard is hard enough in the NRL?

Too see how much parra can improve will be interesting. Stuart should be all about tightening the up defence and Sandow, well he played so badly last year he could be considered a rookie this year. Bit of consistency and they should sneak into the eight.

SMITHY: Breaking down your NRL team's chances in 2013 (Pt 1)

Silly Fabian. He put on the crown, but didn’t realise everyone knows where the king sits. Maybe time to finally drop some muscle and make a run at some week long stage-races where it doesn’t really matter if you finish the stage in 1, 2 or 3.

Can Fabian Cancellara still win classics?

Doing some research for a uni assignment and found this little gem of a quote. Sums it up perfectly i think.

“The interrelations between sports and television have resulted in the adaptation-
modification of Olympic activity to commercial principles. Olympic sports
have frequently made changes in their regulatory framework in order to accommodate
the mass media’s commercial principles. The IOC sells the rights
for the Olympics to the media, who instead of using the games to visualize
and promote a global community constructed around respect for cultural diversity,
focus the viewers’ attention on consumerism and egocentric sport
achievements, consequently contributing to the socioeconomic globalization
value system, and not to that of universalization or cosmopolitism. In other
words, in regard to today’s Olympic phenomenon, consumerism, capitalization
or the exploitation of our social capital in sports have become a priority (e.g.
in the mass media, in the commercial market, in high performance sports
through doping and intensive training for «victory» at all costs).”
