I understand the impacts it may have to the development of Aussie Rugby in the short term. However my concern is Super Rugby as a modern Professional competition as opposed to a purely development one.
Definitely Australians would receive less time out on the field with an influx of talent from across the Tasman however I see the potential for more people coming to games and watching on television.
This I believe would lead to more people playing Rugby Union in Australia. Junior registration in the traditional form of the game is going in a dangerous direction and I do think there may be a correlation between the status of Super Rugby in Australia and the amount of people wanting to play in juniors.
In the short term Australia may only count for 30% of Australasia with on average three starting players in each position. Was Australia not competitive between 2001-05? In future that number could grow with more interest.
