I am passionate about the game played in Heaven in general and the Western Force in particular.

I have read the administrator’s report and can find no objective reason that suggests that RA should deviate from the stand it has taken.

UPDATE: RA say they were blindsided over Rebels' finances, reject private consortium claim as administrator backs club's survival

Depends on what RA has been told/fed. The Melbourne Rebels Board appears to have displayed a blatant disregard for the rules that apply to the governance of a corporate entity.

UPDATE: RA say they were blindsided over Rebels' finances, reject private consortium claim as administrator backs club's survival

This says it all: “My preliminary view is that the company may have traded whilst insolvent from December 31, 2018, and that it is likely that all debts that remain unpaid were incurred which could result in an insolvent trading claim exceeding $16.8m,” Longley concluded in its report.”

A-TW: NB for creditors. Nothing else.

With respect, A-TW, you are placing an emphasis that is well beyond the scope of the main issues at hand. No one want to see players not get their Super entitlements. But it can happen when directors, executive management and those with influence within a business structure wantonly flout the rules seemingly for years on end. The proposal must be seen for what it is – simply a mechanism to keep the same cowboys in control for 2 more years doing the same old same old!

There is something that really hacks me off about the Melbourne situation. While trading in insolvency, that is illegally, they have had the opportunity to sign a swag of Australian players who would have been better placed with other SR franchises.

LRO – In the corporate world, the responsibility buck stops with the directors, not the highly paid executives – CEO, CFO etc. The latter just get to lose their jobs unless involved in fraud or other criminal wrongdoing, which could lead to criminal prosecution (highly unlikely). However, damage to individual reputations (CVs) would be immense.

A Board of Directors that allows a company to trade while insolvent for five years is simply diabolical and has breached the core principles of trust. On that fact alone the current Melbourne Rebels should be dismembered and their Board members heavily penalised and barred from acting as directors again. Why should the rest of the Australian rugby fraternity be forced to participate in a proposal designed to give the Melbourne Rebels Board an opportunity to: A – Avoid the personal liability that now attaches to each of them; and B – Look for funds to take the fight to RA, which can only bring about negative outcomes to the rest of rugby in Australia.

Five things: What Beale has over other golden oldies, double pain for Brumbies as Blues expose Australia's biggest weakness

Nothing wrong with either his IQ or his EQ. Just a self-indulgent sense of outrage borne of an exaggerated perception of entitlement.

The Wrap: Why SANZAAR must hold Frank Lomani accountable for 'going back for his hat'

Well said KPM – but to go one step further, in my view “our” Super Rugby should be an Aussie based competition. There is no need to involve NZ or the likes of Fiji etc at all. That comes in at the Rugby Championship level. I have said it dozens of times before: Australia must stop feeding NZ sides the opportunity to preview the Oz player opposition. It doesn’t happen in the NH so why have it here. We need our own domestic SR programme with multiple games that act as local derbies and growth in the number of teams to create the professional pathway to the international competition.

'Definition of madness': Rugby reform must start with total cleanout of RA board - and this should happen next

Hey Cam – Yes, I believe that it can. When someone engages in playing a game like rugby, they voluntarily assume a risk of injury caused either by the either general play within the rules of the game or the negligence of others. They do not sign up for intentional actions of others to cause injury. There may at times be a grey area between those 2 situations but Lomani’s case must sit outside the grey area.

The Wrap: Why SANZAAR must hold Frank Lomani accountable for 'going back for his hat'

Great article Geoff – Actually, Lomani has no place in our game. Just look at the disbelief that enveloped his face and his aggressive response to the Ref when carded. This coupled with his latest actions indicates that he feels no remorse whatsoever. As you and many others have said, it makes total nonsense to give someone in his position a huge discount for an early plea where their guilt is obvious. An early plea should only apply where the player before the judiciary is potentially at fault for exhibiting poor technique etc. And then saves all concerned the trouble of a lengthy appearance before the judiciary to examine and resolve the matter. It is NOT for blatant and intentional foul play that is intended to hurt, is forcefully applied and results in actual injury.

Bugger, in the moment I forgot Carter, Nic, Horton and …… just shows how all in the team played as it could!

Beale, Rodda shine on Super Rugby return as Force smash Crusaders to keep finals hopes alive

OMG – I am in Bali to celebrate a milestone birthday with my family: 2 daughters, their men and 2 grandi’s, so could not be at HBF tonight, but managed to watch on a computer. So chuffed with the boys – they absorbed so much pressure (17 phases at one point, I think) and grew as the game progressed. As Christy said, so many contributed and to my mind the bench was great. Izack, Kurtley, Carlo, Hamish and Dono stood just a little above many who stood tall tonight. Well done to Crono and all the guys!!

“get us off the bottom rung” … But only if we don’t persist in kicking possession away at every opportunity.

Wallabies star set to make timely return against Crusaders in must-win clash for Force

Hey Coker, Yes, but the potential for a really serious injury (to the back of the head) has to be considered in Lomani’s thuggery. His victim was lucky to escape with 20 stitches. McDermott’s victim was virtually unscathed. Frankly, to eradicate this type of “play”, each should have received the maximum penalty available. There is no place in rugby circa 2024 for that sort of approach to the game and others should be given the chance to take the field to prove themselves.

Yeah – your “remorse” comment sits in the same box as a discount for “an early plea” given all the camera evidence on open display.

And Marley Pearce of The Force copped 4 WEEKS STRAIGHT in Feb. But then, I almost forgot, his unintentional but poor tackle technique was on royal game in the form of a Barrett. Still it is 2/3rds of the punishment that was dished out for Lomani’s blatant, vicious and intended assault that could have killed or maimed but ended in 20 stitches for the recipient. Perhaps Marley, by breaking his own nose and spraying some claret on Barrett, deserved a far greater penalty than for an intentional headbutt or indeed a swinging arm retaliation blow – Lol. 😡

Charlie – he has paid a big price for whatever he may have done. A year in the criminal justice system will have had a huge impact on him. He must live with any aberrant behaviour he may have displayed in the past for the rest of his life. I do not condone his failings in any way but, respectfully, he has been through the system and it is now time to move on. The Force must, however, keep him on a short leash with zero tolerance for any breaches.

What Joe Schmidt told Kurtley Beale about his Wallabies future

“Drua ‘shocked at racial abuse’ “ – Racial abuse cannot be condoned at any level. But Fiji, I am shocked at the appalling way your teams play to injure the opposition on the rugby field. Physicality is one thing but when taken to the extreme, it is what it is, unacceptable abuse. This is exemplified in Lomani’s case where he took an opportunity to hurt and he did. He is a hotheaded thug and you just need to look at the menace he displayed in his choke hold of Nick White’s neck and throat in the Drua v Force game 2 weeks back to see this. Look also at his reaction to the Red Card when given by the Ref – total disbelief that this should be happening to him meaning not a second though about the actions he has just perpetrated. The entry point of 10 weeks should have been added to and the ban should have been at least a year out of the game. As for the idiot who sprayed his (alleged) racial abuse at Lomani – if he did that then there is no place for him in the rugby stadium stands and he should be banned from attending games for 5 years – but perhaps discounted by the same margin that Lomani achieved.

What Joe Schmidt told Kurtley Beale about his Wallabies future

Lets just give him a chance and see. The guy has been out of it for a year, carries no injuries, looks fit and expresses maturity and goodwill. Snide comments about his Court situation must go as he was acquitted. The Force needs injury cover of some standing desperately and KB needs the opportunity (probably his last). Look at how many chances James O’C was given and that, other than for injury, proved to be positive for the Reds. Good luck KB – play like a man possessed!

Hey Paul – You will find in the fine print that he also has to attend the WR “How to headbutt and make it count” remedial course! 😁
