unless Yarran has a great year in 2016 his compo pick under free agency would be maximum 2nd round but more likely lower. Chances of him playing good footy in 2016 when he has already checked out are buckleys and none. Silvagni would presumably realise that a 2nd round pick is as good as its going to get. Alternatively they could seek a player swap. Maybe Hampson for Yarren? 🙂

A proposal from left field to get Adam Treloar to the Tigers

Pete I guess you didn’t watch Hawthorn V Port Adelaide earlier this year and then read/listen/hear the subsequent “outrage” about Brain Taylors bias toward Hawthorn. If you read the tweets and various media reporting of Channel 7 last Friday they were not critical that they talked up Freo because they are anti Freo. They were critical because the team was being belted yet remained the focus of the commentary team. Substitute any team 6-7 goals down being the focus and you get the same criticism: exhibit #1 Hawthorn as above. Take chill pill and take the blinkers off.

Watching Fremantle on Channel Seven is awesome

Sent this in on Saturday when the game was still being discussed.7 were poor. As for Freo, I like Fyffe but as a non Freo supporter surprised the work of Sandilands to give him an armchair ride got less attention by commentators (though not in the coaches votes)

Watching Fremantle on Channel Seven is awesome

I love Channel 7

What a thoroughly enjoyable experience it was to sit down and watch Friday night footy on Channel 7. I’ve never understood the complaints about their standard definition broadcast. I have a state of the art TV that cost me thousands and while for me the SD broadcast can look a bit fuzzy, that’s what I like about it. No one ever asked Monet or Van Gogh to paint in high definition. Channel 7 gives us impressionist TV – we should be appreciative. But as good as the viewing is, the commentary is even better. I took notes from the TV commentary and prepared this match report for The Roar.

On Friday it was a thrill to watch the might of Fremantle. Undefeated on top of the ladder and oozing with class. From the first bounce Sandilands dominated the ruck and gave an armchair ride to Nat Fyffe, with out a doubt the best player in the competition, and Mundy and others. Big bodied mid fielders like Fyffe and Mundy intimidate their opponents and crash packs, win the hard ball and on Friday night we saw a showcase of their skills as Fremantle completely dominated the clearances. Fyffe was in everything, taking spectacular marks, kicking what could be goal of the year, and crashing through tackles. Occasionally when tackled he dropped or threw the ball and we must applaud the umpires for doing the game a service and not paying free kicks for illegal disposal against the games best player. The fans want to watch the champions take the game by the scruff of the neck and put their stamp on it. The umpires need to stand back and let Fyffe give us an exhibition. Fyffe is the best player in the competition.

Speaking of necks, several Fremantle players were brutally assaulted by their opponents with head high tackles. So what if they ducked their heads, you can’t do that to our purple warriors.

Fremantle had to suffer under the burden of being a man short after Johnson was subbed out in the first quarter but they rose to the occasion. As well as that they were tired after having to travel interstate last week. But our boys showed courage and skill. Ballantyne was in everything showing why he is such a force in the forward 50. Walters came into his own and kicked some dazzling goals running rings around his opponent. Neale and Barlow were outstanding. Exciting footy played by the competitions premier team with the competitions premier player – Nat Fyffe.

In the end Fremantle held onto top spot with Fyfe showing us all why he is the best player in the competition.

Result: Fremantle’s opponents won by 27 points.

AFL commentators and the dreaded 'b' word

You’ve just got to shake your head when listening to the talkback today.

Scores of journos make a living from footy. Carlton are a rabble. Last nights game was a dud. Malthouse has already been sacked so journos can’t regurgitate a “How long will Mick last” article. So what is a journo going to write about? Might have been nice to do a piece on dud big name recruits and compare the performances of Thomas versus Tippett but so many seem to have taken the lazy option and beat up another Goodes story. Unfortunately a large number of talkback listeners and social media commenters have offered the Pavlovian reaction that the lazy media sought and taken the bait.

Here's another controversial article about Adam Goodes

“The media was sent into a frenzy last night when Adam Goodes celebrated his second quarter goal by performing an Indigenous war dance”

It was a non event. If the media didn’t turn it into a frenzy I doubt anyone would even mention it today. Instead what we see is a dud media trying to create controversy and a Pavlovian response from punterville (where there otherwise would have been none sans meedya)

Please, tell me how Adam Goodes offended you?

really?

“threatening”!!

Yep, the crowd were shaking in their boots after being threatened. If any other player in the AFL did that would it be threatening?

Players (and supporters) wanting wanting to stick it up ’em — ” ’em” being the opposition is not uncommon. Ted Whitten.

I think you’re taking life too seriously and should lighten up.

Here's another controversial article about Adam Goodes

Maybe you’re too young to have gone to Essendon games in which Matthew Lloyd played. Self confessed stager and roundly booed when he did it.

Does the Adam Goodes drama expose a racist underbelly in Australia?

Thanks David. If you’re familiar with the TV show then best read imagining the Air Crash Investigations narrator doing the honours. Also imagine the closing credits rolling with Sticks Kernahan singing “Stand By Your Man”

Air Crash Investigation: What happened at Carlton Airlines?

thanks guys. As a long time fan of Air Crash Investigation and antagonist of Carlton FC I couldn’t resist. 🙂

Air Crash Investigation: What happened at Carlton Airlines?

When the official announcement is made I’m hoping Sticks Kernahan is there to sing “Stand By Your Man”
