Gold, Dane. Three thumbs up.

An NRL fan's guide to that soccer tournament in Russia

I really hope someone has put a copy of Touchstones in your Christmas stocking, VanMac.

What Michael Maguire has to do as the new referees coach

Nice story, Robert. Thanks for sharing, and keep up the good work (and buena suerte).

Taking rugby league to the other side of the world

The NRL are also orchestrating the North American hurricanes via deep sea bunkers their NSWRL forebears had built with the Russians during the Cuban missile crisis, TB. Their forward thinking is legendary. They just can’t work out why putting on a game between Manly and Penrith in Moore Park doesn’t attract a crowd, but they’ll get to that once they perfect the match fixing. Honestly, do some of these ‘fans’ ever look at the evidence?

Six talking points from Melbourne Storm vs Parramatta Eels NRL qualifying final

“It’s that time of the year when paranoia rustles though leagueland, picking up tiny coincidences and spinning them into chilling conspiracies.” Yep, Roy’s on to it.

Good one

Queensland call in Danny Nutley to mentor Tim Glasby before his first and only Origin game

So why isn’t this the headline, rather than the original story? Less click-bait?

Matai slams reports phone seized

How about updating the update, Roar? http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/manly-sea-eagles/manly-sea-eagles-centre-steve-matai-denies-mobile-phone-was-seized-by-authorities-20160909-grd1qc.html

NRL match-fixing investigation update: Steve Matai's phone allegedly seized by police

Agreed on the hypocrisy angle, Matt, and I think there is a further dimension with the attitude toward painkillers. You can juice up as much as you like with the “right” drugs. It’s a societal thing, sport is just one aspect of it.

The hypocrisy of drug bans in a game backed by booze

Brisbane Broncos vs Manly Sea Eagles all-time greatest match-up

three knees

Brisbane Broncos vs Manly Sea Eagles all-time greatest match-up

Yep, 172 first-grade games with hardly a mistake, 64 tries (Tom Mooney scored 83 in 163 games and made the 1990 version of the greatest-ever team, for comparison), and still under-rated. Thanks for confirming, champion. No, I’m not related to Craig Hancock.

Brisbane Broncos vs Manly Sea Eagles all-time greatest match-up

You’re playing Graham Eadie and Michael O’connor out of position instead of Ken Irvine? Um, no. Eadie is the fullback, and Manly’s had enough flying wingers – Tom Mooney, the always under-rated Craig Hancock, not to mention Rocket Rod Jackson (OK, maybe not) – not to need a transplanted centre on the wing either. O’connor or Lyon next to Bozo in the centres? Hmmm, good question. Snake Stewart is versatile enough to come off the bench (sorry Thommo).

Zut alors! Andre, it has always been the way for the GGOA. Politics was part of the mix when the first Rugby League casserole was cooked in 1895, and was a major ingredient when the recipe was rejigged in 1908 and 1995, with a soupçon of French bastardry stirred in by the Vichy in 1940. Dissent is in Rugby League’s DNA, love it or loathe it.

'Politics' of NRL killing rugby league

Ben might have picked up the bug while working on Mullet with the Kiama Knights and Mick Cronin, (amongst others like notorious Panthers tragic Steve Le Marquand) – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mullet_(film). Not a bad little film either.

MASCORD: Origin should transcend the Brisbane-Sydney connection

All’s fair in love and Rugby League

UPDATE: Daly Cherry-Evans backflips on Titans deal

Good game in the conditions. Souths have done enough to be in pole position, but anything could happen in this mess.

Agreed.

MASCORD: Cultural change in NRL essential for the game's survival

What a dumb comment.

Yes!

Why I don’t care about Souths, Arizona and the alleged cover-up

It’s not about political correctness. It’s about the media talking about the media, because that’s more fascinating to the media than any other subject. Sports media, political media, all forms of social media trying to get in the foreground of the next SENSATION!!!!!

Look at me, look at me, I can interpret this for you!!!! It’s unbelievable, it’s astounding, it’s a guy asking a girl to do a twirl!!! (Not a twerk, a twirl). How dare he notice the dress she’s wearing! And how dare she draw Serena into this rampant objectification. It’s not like Serena’s ever let her fashion sense draw attention away from her tennis. She’s spent a whole career just letting her tennis speak for herself, and now she’s being drawn into some horrific schizoid confusion between humble sportsperson and over-inflated celebrity egotist. I fear where this might lead, and could it happen in other sports?!?

I need a blogger to explain this to me. I’m sure there’ll be one along shortly.

Imagining a post-post-match world

One of the best articles on cricket I’ve read in a long while. Informative, insightful and honest. Big ups. On another tack, who do you think hit the ball hardest, Dizzy?

Advice from 1984: Don't play rugby league

But if golden point only applies in finals, then it becomes even more of a lucky dip because it’s something that teams don’t practice much during the year. Plus extra time only benefits the teams that don’t have to play it. You’d have an absolutely knackered winner at the mercy of their next opponents. Leave it as it is. It’s flawed, but fine, like the game itself.
