Seems like the NRL All Stars game will be trialling the rule….. Let’s see how it goes.

Restarts from Kicks

– For any attacking team that kicks the ball from the outside the opponents 30m line (30m from try line) and the ball goes dead in-goal, the opponent will receive the ball via a handover (tap restart) from the point where the kick originated once the match officials are in place.

NRL rule change? No more dead in-goal

To be honest… If you were to pick a GB team today, the majority of the team would be English. I would prefer to see an NRL Exiles team formed of non-state of origin players. Winner of the State of Origin series plays the Exiles, or something like that… You’ve got players like Benji Marshall who will never taste State of Origin football, why not let them play in an Exile team against an origin side. The All Star concept is great but when you have to pick one player from each team, you’re never going to get an “All Star” team. I think an Exile team might just do the trick.

Bring back the Ashes

European handball!!!!!! The game is great… fast paced, high intensity, end to end action, indoor sport… It has all the ingredients, just needs some money to get it started. The game is massive in Europe (hence the name) and always attracts a good following during the olympics. It’s a TV game (as the camera follows the ball) and could potentially be a winner if marketed correctly to the correct audience.

How about a new sport for pay TV?

Matt you must not have watched many Melbourne Storm games or even Parra games… Every coach instructs their halves to kick away from the fullback and some coached insist on kicking the ball dead to avoid Billy Slater or Jarred Hayne kick returns…. How many mid-field bombs do you see go untouched that end up dead in goals?? This rule is to eliminate the dead boring tactics of kicking the ball dead intentionally, to avoid the fullback.

NRL rule change? No more dead in-goal

I like your variation MG, any kick within the opposition 20-meters that goes dead, would go back to the 20.

I’d even put the Raiders ahead of the Panthers and Titans… A re-building year for both teams.

Penrith versus Gold Coast in the 2013 NRL grand final

Josh Mansour has a lot of errors in his game…. He’s a very good runner of the ball but drops the ball far to often and gets caught out in defence… As for Coote… A very raw talent, that needs a few seasons in the NRL injury-free before he can go any further.

Penrith versus Gold Coast in the 2013 NRL grand final

No Mazza, I don’t deny it…. Every Premier League game is shown in Australia (and most of them live), with the other leagues, you mainly have to stream online to watch the game but a part from that, the Premier League style of play is very different from the Spanish or the Italian game…. A cold night, playing on a soggy snowy pitch, against a Stoke team filled with defenders looking to snap your leg, might not bring the best out of Messi 🙂 But just in general, I would really like to see how Messi would go in the Premier League… Ronaldo did it! Messi has been surrounded with world class players for his entire career… Ronaldo had to play with Gary Neville (he’ll never make a top 20 anywhere)… Maradona had a bunch of unknowns with him at Napoli…. Messi doesn’t have to prove anything BUT… once again, it would be nice to see him in the Premier League 🙂

Messi extends his contract with Barcelona

Yeah we saw exactly what he did in the Champions League last season against Chelsea… Calm down buddy, it’s not a comment against the La Liga, but in general, it would be great to have seen him in the Premier League.

But oikee this will also stop any big hits…. Nothing better than a good set of six out of your own half, long punt down field and bone crunching shoulder charge to release the pressure on your team… Also nothing funnier than watching Sandow attempt a shoulder charge on a player 5 times the size of him haha

ARLC signs off with a bang for 2012 with host of rule improvements

Sagan is very explosive… exciting to watch, interesting to see that Cavendish is not on your list… Winning the last stage of the Tour and becoming the most successful sprinter in Tour de France history with 23 stage wins, deserves some credit… Watching Cavendish chase down Sanchez and Roche in the last km to win one of the stages was one of the highlights of the year for me.

Top ten riders of 2012

Puyol will progress into the Barca coaching department, good to see another one club player… very rare these days. I would have liked to see Messi on a freezing cold night at Stoke, with Huth hacking at his shins, just to see what type of player he really is… We’ve seen Cristiano Ronaldo in the premier league, would love to see how Messi would go.

What about off the kickoff, when Luke Bailey or T-Rex come charging back with the ball and they lead with the forearm?? The defender will get smashed!!! Most the forwards these days, tuck the ball under their arm and lead with their foreman/shoulder or whatever they can, to get over the first defender… The defender now needs to ensure they wrap the player up or attempt a tackle otherwise they’ll get penalised… What a joke!!! No more bumps in the NRL… Origin without any shoulder charges… I’m gutted to be honest. Good to see the UK not embrace this rule, what’s going to happen with the International games and the World Cup?

Guys we are missing the point here… What would the game be like without our stars?? Without JT, Inglis, Cam Smith, Benji Marshall, Billy Slater?? Our elite players are all being targeted by the other codes… Are we going to let these codes take anymore of our stars?? The Melbourne Storm had to rort the cap to ensure it could keep their stars… You’re not valuing are players high enough…. Folau was trying to come back to the NRL and we made it impossible for him, it doesn’t make sense… Imagine the Bulldogs last season with SBW as their marquee?? Marquee player rule doesn’t mean “You have to spend millions on an elite player”, it means our clubs will be able to splash the cash when they need to, to keep our best players in the NRL… I for one don’t want to see us losing any more.

NRL needs marquee player rule

BA- Inglis just signed a 1 million per season contract… I’m talking about the big stars of our game… these boys put their bodies on the line for their team week in week out and you feel that they get paid plenty already?? You must be an AFL fan or a cricket fan cause these boys deserve more… And why shouldn’t we splash the cash on a Folau or a SBW to keep them in our game and not lose them to union? The more stars in our game the better the quality of the game!

Oikee I think you’re looking at it wrong… Take Matt King for example… He played SOO and for Australia and at the age of 27 moved to the UK for $600k a season as the Storm had no room for him whatsoever… Same with Tuquiri, Wendell Sailor, Gasnier and Mat Rogers…. They all left the game in their mid 20’s, only to return at the backend of their careers… Let’s do everything we can to keep our stars in the game and not make the NRL an under 20 comp.

NRL needs marquee player rule

hahaha I feel sorry for the baby elephant you just offended 🙂 In his defence, the white titan’s jerseys don’t do him any favours nor do they do Dave Taylor any favours.

Idris aiming high for Titans in 2013 NRL

Yeahhh McCullough’s a top player… He’ll have a big future in the game… But why not let our tops players earn what they deserve, instead of letting them go to either the UK or other codes?

NRL needs marquee player rule

With the Storm… If the Broncos come in and say, we want to make Smith our marquee player and throw a few million at him… Do you honestly think the Storm would be able to keep their big 3? Opening up the marquee player market, will increase the value of these players…. How can a player like Cronk (one of the best halfbacks in the world if not the best) be on a salary of less than $600k (if I’m not mistaken)??? The marquee player option will allow these players to earn what they deserve.

NRL needs marquee player rule

Oikee is was also documented that Lockyer only took up $250k of the Broncos cap in the last year…. In your scenario, the 3 valuers as they would be called, wouldn’t allow Lockyer to drop $200k, nor would they allow Gasnier to have a back ended contract and sign for $200k less… Whilst it’s a great idea to determine the value of the players, it shouldn’t govern the cap.

NRL needs marquee player rule

Rorting the cap??? Come on guys, towards the end of Darren Lockyer’s career, he was on $1 Million a season, however only $250k was counted towards the Bronco’s cap…. Third party sponsors and the marquee allowance ($300k, I think) were set to cover the rest of his salary… To me this is more open to cap rorting. With a marquee allowance not counting towards the cap, team’s will be less likely to have to find third party sponsors to cover the cost of these players. If we did have a group of specialists assessing the value of players, the Bulldogs last season would have been a few million dollars over the salary cap. Inu on a $50k salary is outrageous…. In the end I want and I’m sure you all want, the Rugby League stars in our game… If every club was allowed one marquee player (not included in any cap with no restrictions on salary) the talent will again be shared around, cause all teams will have the same trump card to use.
