NRL players that need to shine in 2010

21 Feb 2010

I love the salary cap as it makes the NRL the most competitive competition in the world. Each new season brings optimism for all fans of NRL clubs, and even if your side collected the wooden spoon from the previous year, your side still has a genuine chance of picking up the title the next [...]

I like the idea of multiple jersey's in a season as well as minor changes every season. In the Dragons case they need their Red V a second for Away Games a third for the Charity Shield and a fourth for the Heritage Round celebrating our proud Rugby League History. I don't buy a jersey every year for the Broncos but when I do i like them to be different so I can attach some sentimental history to the jersey. I have my original 1988 Jersey, I have the 1990 Jersey the year the King left the Broncos. I have the 2002 Jersey the year the Prodigal Son (Langer) returned to the club. I have the 2008 Jersey celebrating Wayne Bennett's last season as well as all the grand Final Seasons (92, 93, 97,98, 2000, 06) I am glad all my jerseys' are unique even though the only one I wear is the original 88 version. Regarding the uproar concerning the changing of the famous Dragons strip I found a little disappointing. This match is for charity and making a sacrifice like changing the strip that is cherished by so many is an honorable act and not so much a sacrifice.

Do teams really need new jerseys every year?

"How on earth anyone thinks this can make a positive financial contribution to the competition is beyond me." PNG deserves a spot in the NRL. They are the only country in the World to have rugby league as its national sport. Having a whole nation religiously watching every game can only increase the selling price of TV rights for the NRL. Constant games in the NRL will give PNG valuable experience thus strengthen the international game. Until Rugby League can create a truly competitive international World Cup, league will always be a big fish in a small pond. *Comments made by a proud child of PNG

If you ran NRL, where would you put teams?

I would love to see PNG get a side in the NRL. PNG is the only country in the world that has rugby league as its national sport. It may be a costly exercise but the revenue from having the support of a whole country would be an attractive situation for tv revenue. I tend to agree with Col the Bear that we should fix past mistakes (Bears) before accepting another franchise.
