Free up shirt design in the A-League

On first point, jersey design is important and HAL badge should be moved to sleeve-

Check out my article; Free up shirt design in A-League

Seven simple ways to fix the A-League

FC Dallas changed their name, like I am proposing for Brisbane- as they used to be called ‘Dallas Burn’ I think that was largely a successful change don’t you?

Your saying Football Club Brisbane won’t work because its not an English term but most of the clubs i’ve mentioned actually use it in English rather than their own language;

FC Inter is Football Club Internazionale Milano- not Calcio Internazionale Milano

FC Barcelona was partly founded by an English group like many mainland European football clubs and they were founded as Foot-Ball Club Barcelona, using the English term Football Club, now they are Futbol Club Barcelona.

FC Utrecht uses English: Football Club Utrecht

Look at AFC Wimbledon, its a great name- but you never hear people saying oh its so shocking for an English speaking team; ‘Association Football Club Wimbledon’

Most people never read all abbreviations like they are suppossed to be read in full leangth whenever you talk about a team.
I never hear anyone saying Sydney Football Club, or Football Club Barcelona for that matter, its always Sydney FC, FC Barcelona-
and it would be FC Brisbane.

Brisbane Roar needs new name and image

I only know a few, but aren’t a lot of these players from Cairns?

I think Cairns has more football culture than Townsville.

But I don’t see any Socceroos on this list apart from Frank Farina (who played for Canberra City as well)… just an interesting fact?

Mitch Langerak is a bright prospect but he’s from Bundaberg…

It's time for the A-League to flourish

Carl Valeri
Nikolai Topor-Stanley
Josip Simunic
Kaz Patafta
Matthew Kemp
and thats just a few… all from Canberra

Did anyone know Johnny Warren coached the other NSL team Canberra City?
People always focus on how terrible the Cosmos were and never appreciate the other aspects of Canberran football.

It's time for the A-League to flourish

Are you kidding??

Football in Canberra is easily the second biggest sport in the ACT far bigger than AFL, and arguably has more participants/persons involved than rugby league, even with the Raiders.

To MyLeftFoot, Townsville has a population 181,000 while Canberra-Queanbeyan has around 400,000-
In between those two is Wollongong, Sunshine Coast, Hobart and Geelong- all bigger than Townsville and all much more deserving of an A-League license according to the FFA’s population=support philosophy.

It does make sense to expand according to population, and football is loved across the country equally unlike AFL/rugby league divisions.

It's time for the A-League to flourish

It's time for the A-League to flourish

He really is putting the whole nation in one boat-

So we are all racist, unionist ‘Anglos’ who are somehow disrespectful because we can’t pronounce the name of another language-

There are a minority of racist ‘bogans’ who hate Mundine because he’s black (but then again there is a minority of racist nationalists in most countries- not excluding Croatia) and celebrate the day Australia was invaded with drunkenness and violence but there is also a large population who respect the rights of the first Australians and want to cut all ties to the throne of England.

Ljubo is more a hater of English culture than Australia itself.

If playing foreign music in your garage and growing fruit in your backyard makes you of a different nationality- Then I think we are all Croats, or American or Italian or Irish or Greek or Chinese or Brazilian…

Ljubo Milicevic leaves Australia

Free up shirt design in the A-League

When talking about the World Cup, I am only saying that there was no point bidding on a WC that was rigged, which was demonstrated before the bidding day- that it was corrupt and the voting should have been delayed as stated by Transparency International.

Of course the WC cup was important but don’t you think the FFA were putting all their eggs in one basket? They were obviously nieve to think we had any chance in the bidding process without a represenatative in the FIFA executive board and once the group of 22 men went into the room, Australia’s voice and promises were left behind.

The FFA in the meantime neglected every other issue in terms of domestic football and now we are left in this situation.

There has been some great achievements in the last 10 years or so and I wouldn’t be writing this article if I thought football was ruined, but what I am saying is that the current FFA group have done their job and cannot take the any game further.

They don’t have the insight or football-knowledge to do any more good and progress for the game and at the moment there are some huge issues and the FFA just aren’t managing…

FFA is holding football back in Australia

I wouldn’t blame the club so much because it is down to the fans to show their support for players like Jason Cullina who move back to Australia in the prime of their careers to support the A-League and this is what they get?

It is just ridiculous to see more people turning out to Canberra United W-League games than those with Jason Culling and the rest of the GCU team playing well, winning games and getting absolutly nothing for it.

While the club hasn’t done itself any favours by shutting down half the stadium, does the Gold Coast really deserve a team when there are places like Tasmania, Canberra and Wollongong screaming at the FFA for an A-League team.

I’m sure any of these places would be getting crowds over at least 6 or 7 thousand and that would be without stars like Jason Cullina.

The Gold coast is used to having everything handed to it on a silver platter and they have no sense of loyalty or support to show why they deserve an A-League team.

Gold Coast United are dying a painful death

Well, yes no-one started complaining about the bidding process until after the decision was made?

Because it was such a ridiculous decision!!!

Well you say Australia wouldn’t have complained if we won the bid, but we never had the slightest chance because corruption and self-interest was more important to the FIFA panel than the best bid(s).

We aren’t the only one’s being ‘sore losers’ England, the US, Spain-Portugal and Australia all have a lot of reasons to be frustrated with the bidding process and with the end results being so ridiculous.

I think it is ridiculous for people to say it was a fair game and the best bid won and we should all accept it and move on? Why shouldn’t there be a public outcry if the worst ranked bid by FIFA is given so many votes over Australia and the US?

Conspiracy theories about 2022 embarrass Australia

Racist??

I think you’re the one with mistruths…

The 2022 Qatar result should not be accepted

If Australians were deluded into believing we had a chance, Qatar must have been mentally ill to think they had a better bid than the US, Australia and even Japan or Korea.

But yet they won the bid through FIFA corruption, and people like you talk as if Qatar deserved to win the WC hosting rights in 2022.

Australia isn’t the biggest football nation, we are ranked 20th, but hardly ‘plankton’…
you can whinge all you want about how tiny football is in Australia but Qatar is ranked 113th, they are smaller than plankton in the FIFA ocean!

We are more of a football nation than Qatar will ever be.

The 2022 Qatar result should not be accepted

Well i’m not sure if any of the 22 FIFA delegates have been to Qatar?

Why would I have to go to Qatar to know that it is the size of Fiji and totally incapable of hosting a WC let alone in 50 degree heat.

South Africa was criticised hugely for being ranked 50th and not being able to participate competitively in their World Cup, Qatar is ranked extremely poorly and isn’t a football country.
Shouldn’t FIFA World Cups be given to nations that are at least in the top 100 of the world rankings?
I’m not saying every nation outside the top 50 are insignificant, but every nation outside the top 100 should have a brilliant bid to be considered for hosting footballs premier event and Qatar had the worst ranked bid by FIFA.

The 2022 Qatar result should not be accepted

They should have understood that we, like Russia are in between continents rather than us being completely in Asia or Russia being completely in Europe.

We are our own continent and as the major nation in the wonderful gap between Asia and the Pacific, Australia should be recognised as a completely unique place that is not just another Asian nation and is the only continent to not have hosted the World Cup.

Yes the middle east hasn’t hosted a WC but neither has the OFC and the continent of Australia and in turn the Asia Pacific. Australia was the closest Ocenia would be to hosting the event and as an independant FIFA confederation, you would think they would be prioritising Austalia over the middle east.

Qatar win 2022, but football will still thrive in Australia

I could see it in the eyes of both Sepp Blater and the Qatari guy that they couldn’t believe Qatar had actually got it.

Did anyone hear the voice of the Qatari guy when he said ‘we will deliver’ or ‘we will not dissapoint’ I bet he is thinking; ‘Sh*t, now we actually have to make this thing work, how is this possible’

They are as shocked as we are, or maybe not…

No matter how much money they throw at it, the 2022 World Cup if hosted in Qatar is destined to failure.

FIFA disgraces game with farcical decision on Qatar

LOL, Too right!
You cannot escape the world game, there is something happening every day of the year!
(unlike AFL who make media noise from the most un-important, boring AFL issues that do not deserve attention)

Whatever the result, kudos to Frank Lowy and co

Couldn’t agree more! MVDave you hit the nail on the head,

These AFL fans will never get to experience anything like the World Cup, one the most international, and the biggest sporting event on the planet! And it could very likely be hosted in Australia throughout the whole country in many cities unlike the miniscule olympics…

Cmon Aussie!

I’ve had 47 comments for this article Im very surprised but,

All I want to hear is if people support B-League or A2-League. This isn’t some comment spot for people to waffle on about the NSWPL and so on.

Some of these comments are quick to discredit the B-League name but I haven’t heard any reasons why the A2-League would be so good. (you can write an article about it)

There is a lot of negativity and deconstructive comments. Keep it relevant. I don’t want people commenting on why a B-League wouldn’t work just what the title should be.

Thanks.

B-League or A2-League for second tier?

THe Bangladesh League used to be refererred to as the B. League, (as to stand for the Bangladesh League with a dot) but now isn’t called the B. League anymore. It is just referred to as the Citycell Bangladesh League, and the whole B. League thing has been dropped.

Even if there was another B-League out there I don’t think it should affect our second tier being called that.
Look at Brasilian Campeonato Brasileiro da Série A, does that mean the Italian Serie A should change its name, just because there is also another league with the same name. There are also a million Premier Leagues around the world and people seem to manage.

The Serie A is not Serie A-1 and Serie A-2, I know the lower tiers have a lot more confusing names but for the top two, it should be simply A-League and B-League, Serie A and Serie B

When you get to the third tier and so on you have to use more numbers and definitions because the structure gets complicated and that is understandable but for the top two divisions at least, there should be the iconic A and B leagues.

“The A-League would definitely stand for Australian League”
does it? I don’t see how. If you read my article I thought I disproved this and unless you have some proof, stop making random calls.

B-League or A2-League for second tier?

Absolutely agree, great post. Good to see these numbers working and hope to hear some more detailed plans Grobb

B-League or A2-League for second tier?

Bahraini Premier League, not B-League…

How does borrowing from J2 name make the most sense?

Its like having Serie A-2

B-League or A2-League for second tier?

How could we have some random names like these, that have no relation to the A-League whatsoever?

Why is it a bad thing to say that the second football league is inferior to the A-League? That is kind of obvious

There are many leagues around the world that have a second tier and aren’t ashamed to admit it,

and I think if you had an A-League next to an Australian Premier League people would get confused and wouldn’t know which one is the top.

B-League or A2-League for second tier?

No, if it was A. League, with a dot, it would represent Australia, as I said it represents the premier division of football. Like the Serie A.

If you can see that the Korean and Japanese league’s both use dots, K.League and J.League which show an abbreviated word, unlike the A-League which just has a dash.

Im pretty sure it doesn’t stand for Australia-League, but as I said it is fortunate that the title also represents that format like the other Asian leagues, as well as its primary title.

B-League or A2-League for second tier?

How can Canberra get a team in this baseball league before having a team in the national league of the city’s most popular sport; football.

Why doesn’t Canberra have an A-League team yet??
