It was miraculous though.

The season is over, so stop with the Cowboys superlatives

The game owes Thaiday nothing, he is a servant of the game not vice-versa. He should probably sit down and reflect upon the fact that somebody with no qualifications can become a millionaire in his early thirties by playing footy in this country. That is a wonderful privilege this country can afford people. He’s been on a good wicket, has a cult following I would say and will live easy no doubt, storm in a teacup.

Big Mal's even bigger stuff up

From origin yes, but never officially from the Kangaroos.

Wade is a fine player, he is exceptional at attacking without the ball and deserves his spot IMO. His SoO appearances have not at all been indicative of his club performances, but it was his first full series and i’d wager he will be better for it. It’s not like there was any consistent outstanding performances from the blues team bar David Klemmer. I agree with you on the Hunt/Friend selection, I don’t think there is a single dedicated reserve 9 in the whole squad as a result. I’m inclined to agree with you on DCE/Maloney, however DCE was given the helm in the 2014 four nations and failed to produce so I believe there is a bit of hesitation there. I feel Dugan plays much better under Meninga’s system than he does in clubland, but I wouldn’t have been aggrieved in seeing Bird included in his place. IMO two glaring omissions are Canberra Goliath Shannon Boyd and Eels hardman Nathan Brown. Boyd has produced massive numbers under Meninga’s system and was a key reason we won last years 4 nations, he had an exceptional debut. He rolled his ankle or something before the ANZAC test this year and was replaced in that game. He was incumbent essentially but I suppose he was left out due to poor club form? He wasn’t setting the world alight there when he was first selected anyway but Meninga made great use of his size on the international stage and he really thrived. Brown has had a phenomenal year, summed up in the Cows v Eels semi. Ran 205 meters and made 50 tackles, he really paralleled what McGuire was doing north of the border.

That being said, I’m very happy to he that he also dropped Thaiday. It just would have been such an injustice if he was selected and Gallen wasn’t. Gallen by the numbers has even outperformed McGuire, second only to Taumalolo in meters run. GTrain is also the Dally M lock of the year, he isn’t slowing down. He really should be penciled in as lock until he retires, he is the best Australian forward going around and that is a statistical fact. I can’t understand the decision really.

Italy will certainly present a healthy squad this WC.

No, McGuire will be at lock and Klemmer will start over Fifita. Meninga won’t be pushed over as Daly was and Klemmer will rightfully start, Jurbo may well claim a bench spot though.

Shame about Gallen! Dally M lock of the year and ran over 4500 meters! Will not be included in the Kangaroos squad! SAD!

Glad you enjoyed the read, the consensus seems to be that people enjoyed it, looks like there will be more to come from me. And likewise, your teams fortunes are inextricably married to fate, your team should win. It’s up to Green to break that holy union by shooting fate through the back of the head.

Thanks upinthenorth! Went out to the open training today and the boys are looking ready, time to take it to fate.

Cheers Nat, it was a joy to write.

Oath, the boys really put in the hard yards towards the end of the season, even though they didn’t get the results they would have liked. The writing was on the wall back then, something special was happening even though the times were tough. It clicked for the Sharks game and we’ve hit a purple (ironic) patch since. Are you a Cowboys supporter firstly?

Cheers R N, appreciate the feedback broheim. I’ve had this account for a little while now but hadn’t got around to doing anything with it. After the Cowboys last three weeks though I figured It was time. I certainly hope sunday evening is more conclusive than the end of the book and hopefully the outcome is a little sunnier as well.

*Just a little issue I picked up, it should be ‘per angusta ad augusta‘ in the title.
