According to a report published in Yahoo Sports, Filipino boxing legend Manny Pacquiao has agreed to terms to fight undefeated champion Floyd Mayweather on May 2 this year.

The fight, which has been in negotiations since 2009, looks finally set to take place, with Pacquiao’s promoter saying the 36-year-old would agree to a 40/60 per cent split of the purse.

This has been one of the most anticipated negotiations in boxing history, with the pair never able to come to terms, despite reports from as early as last decade suggesting the two had signed a contract to secure the fight.

Since then, there were reports of further negotiations, denial of further negotiations, but this time, it looks as though it could be locked in sooner rather than later.

Not only would the fight be highly anticipated by boxing fans around the world, but it would also be very lucrative for both fighters, with Yahoo reporting Mayweather stands to make up to $124 million from the fight.

The bout would reportedly take place at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas.

Tickets could sell for as much as $50 million Australian, almost doubling the next biggest gate taking, which was Mayweather’s fight against Canelo Alvarez in 2013.

Pacquiao’s promoter, Bob Arum, says the terms of the fight have been agreed to on Pacquiao’s end and in Mayweather’s camp, and just needs the sign-off from Floyd Mayweather to go ahead.

“I want to get some movement here, with bringing Mayweather to the table so we can go out and get everything signed and get the networks together and get the thing finished,” Arum told Yahoo Sports on Tuesday.

“I’m not trying to force anybody’s hand, I’m just saying, ‘Hey, we’ve agreed to everything, period,’ ” Arum told Yahoo Sports. “The people we have talked to on Mayweather’s side have agreed to everything. Now we need Mayweather to step up and say, ‘Yeah, I’m on board. I agree.’

“I’m not going to put a deadline on there. I’m just going to hope that everybody does the right thing and we get this concluded. It would be really sad if we went through this stuff again like we did before.”

The welterweight encounter would see the undefeated Mayweather put his undisputed title on the line against Pacquiao, long considered one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world before Mayweather took the mantle.
