Melbourne Victory promoted caretaker coach Mehmet Durakovic to the A-League club’s top job on Tuesday. Former Socceroo Durakovic’s ascent was confirmed following his five-match stint guiding the Victory through the Asian Champions League.

He replaced the sacked Ernie Merrick one match into the campaign, and after losing his first match in charge was undefeated in his last four.

The Victory played expansive and exciting football during those matches, just missing out on a second-stage ACL berth.

The Victory also announced on Tuesday that former Socceroos striker Francis Awaritefe had joined the club as football director.
