New V8 Supercar champion Jamie Whincup won his second successive Barry Sheene Medal as the sport’s best and fairest as his Team Vodafone scooped the awards pool on Monday night.

Whincup was presented with the medal at a gala awards dinner at the Sydney Convention Centre – part of a virtual clean sweep of the V8 awards for his Ford team.

Team Vodafone also won the champion team and best presented team awards, and played a huge role in helping Ford to win the manufacturer of the year title.

Whincup also won the award for the most pole positions this season.

Veteran Russell Ingall’s Supercheap Auto Holden was named the sport’s most improved car – Ingall helping the former grid struggler to the pointy end of proceedings since moving to the team at the start of 2008.

Darwin’s Hidden Valley Raceway won the award for V8 round of the year.

Retiring V8 Supercars chief executive Wayne Cattach and Oran Park principal Tony Perich were also honoured with appreciation of service awards.
