Rebels fine Cipriani over vodka

The Melbourne Rebels have announced that the club has decided to fine Danny Cipriani the sum of one match payment, after concluding an investigation into a nightclub incident involving player Danny Cipriani.

“While the incident was not deemed to be a major infraction, the club believes that Danny’s actions were in breach of the expected behaviours of our players. ,” CEO Ross Oakley said.

Rebels lock Kevin O’Neill, a representative of the Players Standards Group, said they supported the decision.

“As a group we all aspire to high standards both on and off the field, this type of behavior is not acceptable and we will work with Danny to ensure this does not happen again”, Kevin O’Neill said.

Cipriani said that he regrets the fact that the incident has taken attention away from the clubs first historic win last Friday night.

“I have apologised for my actions and I regret any embarrassment my behaviour has caused for the Rebels. I am looking forward to putting this incident behind me, focusing on my rugby and contributing positively to the teams culture. As my behaviour was not in line with our pledge, if anything else happens along these lines again, I have agreed with the players that I will stand down for an appropriate period of time,” Cipriani said.
