Does the Demons' resurgence feel familiar?

The questions asked at the start of Melbourne’s season was if one person could make a difference and guide this group from the AFL wilderness and back onto the track of pride and competitiveness.

The side was full of under performing, misguided and uninspired athletes.

Could the addition of a couple new faces into the team improve the team’s effectiveness on and off the field?

Could existing players who had performed poorly, and on the brink of not getting another game for their team, reinvent themselves and their attitude?

Could this team win back the respect of each other, their supporters and the league after they had become a basket-case over the past couple of seasons?

Yes, yes it could. And it has happened before.

Paul Roos has brought in Dom Tyson, Bernie Vince and Daniel Cross to provide the class and work ethic the team has lacked. He has introduced the new breed such as Jack Viney, Christian Salem and Jay Kennedy-Harris to reinvigorate the side.

And he has been able to turn career-killers such as Lyden Dunn, Carl Peterson, and Neville Jetta into valuable members of the Melbourne Football Club.

Roos said that he needed to win the respect of the players, supporters and first and foremost the AFL community. He has been able to do all of this in only 11 weeks.

The magnificent win the Demons had over the Bombers on Sunday night reminded me of the awesome 1990’s movie The Mighty Ducks.

Paul Roos is our coach Gordon Bombay: guiding, teaching and instilling a game plan into a ragtag group of AFL players.

If the sequel in 2015 is better than the original then I can’t wait to see it and be part of the celebrations.

Quack, Quack, Quack!
