The Manly Sea Eagles and Sydney Roosters open Round 16 of the NRL with a top of the table blockbuster on Friday night at Brookvale Oval, kicking off at 7:40pm (AEST).

The Sea Eagles won the last clash between these two sides in Round 4 of this year – the first rematch of the 2013 Grand Final. Chayse Blair scored the only try of the night as the Sea Eagles came out 8 points to nil victors.

Both sides will enter the match in a good run of form with the Roosters fine month of football seeing them on a four match winning streak. A win on Friday night could see them move into the top position if other results fall their way.

The Sea Eagles’ 26 nil shut out of the Sharks last Saturday saw the side take first position on the ladder. If their stars can remain healthy, they’ll certainly be strong favourites to take out this year’s minor premiership.

The Roosters will be boosted this week by the return of back-rower Boyd Cordner from an ankle injury. He will start the match from the interchange and will be eager to stake his claim for Game 3 of State of Origin with a good performance on Friday night.

Manly have been helped by a relatively easy schedule, with five of their last six wins coming against opposition outside of the top eight. Friday night will present a tough challenge for them facing off against a Roosters side that have looked to have recaptured its 2013 premiership form.

Discipline cost the Roosters last time they met with an 11-2 penalty count against them. They’ll need to eliminate the silly penalties from their game or risk a second straight loss to their arch rivals.

With the two sides close to full strength on Friday, expect to see another fierce encounter as both sides will be looking for bragging rights in their last meeting for the regular season.
