RACE RESULT:

Hamilton becomes only the seventh driver to win five consecutive race wins. His championship lead over Rosberg extends to 24 points now.

Ricciardo’s third place unfortunately means that he is now mathematically out of the championship now, however it is more than likely that he will finish the season in third.

Mercedes AMG have equalled the record set by McLaren in 1988 of leading 12 races from start to finish.

Hamilton has also become the leading British driver now in terms of race wins as he equalled Nigel Mansell’s previous record at the last race.

He also has tied Alonso in fifth on the all time winner’s list.

While recent news has been dominated by speculation over Fernando Alonso’s future and the apparent failure of the Caterham and Marussia teams, there is still a drivers’ world championship being contested.

Lewis Hamilton is coming off another four-race winning streak, repeating this very feat from earlier in the season. The Briton’s lead in the championship has increased to 17 points over his Mercedes AMG teammate and rival Nico Rosberg.

Mercedes AMG will undoubtedly be the team to beat still, and with the constructors’ championship now clinched their key objective will be to allow their drivers to race without any hinderance.

Williams should be second fastest to the Silver Arrows, with this being the venue where Valtteri Bottas scored his first points as a rookie twelve months ago. The recently revived McLaren squad should also be on to score more points and perhaps threaten a podium place to extend their lead over Force India in the constructors’ championship.

Red Bull may finally have to give in to a penalty or two for going beyond the required five elements that make up their power-unit. Sebastian Vettel may miss qualifying altogether and start from the pit-lane with a race-friendly setup. Daniel Ricciardo could also be on cusp of using a sixth element for his Renault engine.

While the absence of Caterham and Marussia may not please everyone, Sauber could benefit. Having not scored a single point this season, the Swiss outfit sits eleventh in the constructors’ standings behind Marussia. A problem-free race for Esteban Gutierrez and Adrian Sutil could pay dividends for Sauber.

2012 winner Hamilton will be the driver to beat this weekend, but could three weeks off have helped Rosberg find a way to trump his teammate? Join us from 7:00am to find out.
