It’s a clash of two of the AFL’s top four when the Fremantle Dockers host the Collingwood Magpies at Domain Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 6:10pm local (8:10pm AEST).

Looking at the fixture prior to the beginning of the season, one would not have put this down as a likely clash of top four sides, but, twelve rounds into the year, he we are.

Fremantle were tipped by many to slide at the start of the year but instead have been remarkable – their first ten matches, a streak of ten consecutive wins, was simply dominant, and they booked themselves in as flag favourites.

However, their fortnight before the bye saw a loss to Richmond – their first of the year – and then a narrow escape against the injury-riddled Gold Coast Suns. It’s safe to say the Dockers will be desperately looking to make a statement tonight.

Collingwood are a far bigger surprise. They lost one of their brightest stars in Dayne Beams last year and looked set to enter a rebuilding phase, but instead they have an 8-3 record halfway through the season.

Now, that has come largely against the poorer teams in the competition, but they’ve had some impressive wins too, particularly those over North Melbourne and Greater Western Sydney. There’s no doubting that this Collingwood team still has plenty of talent.

Tonight’s match is the start of a far more difficult second half of the year that will see the Magpies tested much further than they were in the first. They’ve beaten some mid-table sides but can they get a win over the ladder-leaders? Anything’s possible.

While I wouldn’t rule out an upset win from the Magpies, I think in all likelihood the Dockers should be comfortable winners here. If they’re not, it’ll greatly change our perception of both teams.
Fremantle by 36 points.
