The crucial cogs of AFL's Round 7: Which players need to be the difference makers?
We’re taking a look at one player from each team that needs to make a difference this week, starting with the ANZAC Day games.
Gold Coast forward Tom Lynch enjoyed leading the Suns in Saturday’s thrilling AFL draw against West Coast but he isn’t pushing for full-time captaincy just yet.
The key forward nailed a last-minute goal to level the scores against the Eagles, earning widespread praise for his coolness and leadership under pressure.
It has many tipping him as the Suns next captain when Gary Ablett hangs up his boots, but the 22-year-old says he’s not thinking that far ahead.
“I enjoyed being the captain when Rischa (Michael Rischitelli) and Gaz (Ablett) was out,” Lynch told reporters.
“Rischitelli has really stepped up in Gaz’s absence and when Gaz gets back he’s a great on-field leader and off the field.
“I enjoyed it on the weekend, but I’ve got a long way to go.
“I’ve been in the leadership group two years now, I’ve still got a lot to learn and a lot to improve on.”
Lynch’s partnership with fellow tall forward Charlie Dixon has also got tongues wagging.
The pair have combined for 61 goals this season, but the dynamic duo could be broken up at season’s end with Brisbane reportedly tabling a big money offer to off-contract Dixon.
Lynch says he’s hopeful the foundation Suns player will knock back the Lions to stay at Gold Coast.
“He’s great. He’s a great focal point for us,” Lynch said.
“It’s just one of those things, you can’t get too worried about it.
“We’ll just see how it plays out.
“He does love the club and I hope he signs. He’ll be a massive boost for us if we sign him on.”

Round 5 of the AFL provided plenty of action, from big scorelines to upset wins and pressure starting to build on some clubs and coaches already.
Geelong has been crafty and creative in its list management and has quietly assembled a very exciting young group of midfielders and half-forwards.
Brisbane co-captain Lachie Neale will be looking to lead his team to a victory against Melbourne in what will be his 250th AFL game.
