The 2015 AFL off-season is upon us and it is shaping to the biggest and most active yet. This post contains all the key dates that you will need to know in order to follow the AFL off-season.
The major events of the AFL off-season will be the opening (October 9) and closing (October 18) of free agency, the opening (October 12) and closing (October 22) of the trade period, and the AFL draft (November 24).
Other important events include the AFL pre-season and rookie drafts (November 27), as well as several delisted free agency periods in which clubs will be able to freely sign those players delisted by other clubs.
This all leads into final list lodgement on December 1, when clubs will be required to submit their finalised lists for the 2016 AFL season.
Friday 9 October: AFL Restricted Free Agency Offer and Unrestricted Free Agency Period Commences
Monday 12 October 10am: NAB AFL Trade Period Commences
Sunday 18 October 5pm: Close of AFL Restricted Free Agency Offer and Unrestricted Free Agency Period.
Wednesday 21 October 5pm: AFL Restricted Free Agency Matching Offer 3 Day Period Ends
Thursday 22 October 2pm: NAB AFL Trade Period Closes
Friday 30 October 2pm: First list lodgement
Saturday 31 October: AFL Delisted Player Free Agency Period (1) Commences
Monday 9 November 5pm: AFL Delisted Player Free Agency Period (1) Closes
Tuesday 10 November 2pm: Second list lodgement
Wednesday 11 November: AFL Delisted Player Free Agency Period (2) Commences
Friday 20 November 5pm: AFL Delisted Player Free Agency Period (2) Closes
Tuesday 24 November: NAB AFL Draft Selection Meeting including Father-Son and Academy Players Bidding
Wednesday 25 November: AFL Delisted Player Free Agency Period (3) Commences
Thursday 26 November 2pm: AFL Delisted Free Agency Period (3) Concludes, Third list lodgement
Friday 27 November 11am: NAB AFL Pre-Season Draft Selection Meeting
Friday 27 November 11:10am: NAB AFL Rookie Draft Selection Meeting
Tuesday 1 December 2pm: Final list lodgement
This year for the first time AFL clubs will have access to future picks at the trade table, meaning they will be able to trade draft picks from both 2015 and 2016 if they chose to do so.
A new father-son and academy bidding system will also make the draft a more lively affair with the likely introduction of live bidding on these prospects during the draft.
The draft will be held at the Adelaide Convention Centre, the first time since 1997 that the draft has been held in Adelaide.
