Teenage sensation Taniela Tupou has inked a contract extension with the Queensland Reds that will see him remain with the Super Rugby franchise through until the end of the 2018 season.

Although the much-hyped 19-year-old is yet to play a game at the top level, his high school and club rugby exploits have continued to whet the appetites of fans, who are keen to see if he can live up to his promise at Super Rugby level.

Following the signing, the Tonga-born prop spoke of how driven he is to get his debut for the Reds.

“I’m very happy to be at the Reds until 2018,” Tupou said, “I just love this place.

“When I came here from school I didn’t realise how hard it would be to play Super Rugby, but I’ve learnt a lot in the last year and I know I have to keep working hard to get a chance to play for the Reds.

“I just want to keep learning and hopefully I will get my opportunity to play Super Rugby for the Reds soon.”

The Reds kick off their 2016 Super Rugby campaign against the Waratahs on Saturday, February 27.
