Match result:

The Perth Scorchers secured a thrilling one-run victory over the Hobart Hurricanes at Bellerive Oval on Sunday.

REPORT: SCORCHERS SEAL FINALS BERTH

The Scorchers batted first and set a total of 173 for the Hurricanes to chase, and coming into the final over of the match they found themselves still 16 runs short.

Darren Sammy very nearly got them over the line hitting ten runs off the first four balls of the over, but a run out dismissal for Jonathan Wells on the second-to-last ball left Sammy needing to hit a six off the final delivery of the match to win.

Sammy managed a boundary but couldn’t make it a six, it hit the turf and rolled along for a four, leaving the Hurricanes a run short of victory.

Final score
Hobart Hurricanes 6/172
Perth Scorchers 5/173

The Hobart Hurricanes are looking to get back on the winners list, but they’ve got to knock off the all-conquering Perth Scorchers to get there. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 4:20pm (AEDT).

BBL05 has been an up and down tournament for the Hobart Hurricanes.

An embarrassing loss to the Sydney Sixers first up was quickly swept under the carpet by two wins over the Brisbane Heat and another over the then-undefeated Sydney Thunder.

But the bats have gone quiet again for Hobart, with the Melbourne Renegades and Melbourne Stars both chasing down low totals with ease in the Hurricanes’ last two outings.

Coming up against one of the best chasing teams around, they’ll need to start getting runs on the board again.

Back-to-back reigning champions Perth have looked the goods again this season.

A four-wicket loss to Adelaide in their first game wasn’t ideal, but the Scorchers went on to knock off the Brisbane Heat, Melbourne Renegades and Sydney Sixers by a combined 28 wickets.

The Strikers came back to bite them on Monday night, but a convincing 30-run win over the Sydney Thunder has the Scorchers looking good.

The Hurricanes took out the first two meetings between these sides, but after claiming a win in the BBL03 final, it’s been all Scorchers since.

Prediction
The Hobart Hurricanes are always a tough team to play at their home ground, and they’ll go into this match confident of turning things around.

But the Perth Scorchers have looked simply unstoppable all season, they’ve got to be the favourites.

Scorchers by 6 wickets.
