Jamie Vardy has continued his sensational season for Leicester City in the English Premier League netting an incredible long-range strike against Liverpool on Wednesday morning (AEDT).
After the scores were locked at nil-all at half time, it would take until the 60th minute for the deadlock to be broken, with Vardy sending home the first of his two goals with a remarkable one-touch ping.
He has now scored 18 goals this season, but none have been more spectacular than this effort.
Leicester City would go on to secure the 2-0 win and put themselves five points clear on top of the Premier League table.
It was the first of two goals for this year’s Premier League feel good story, with Vardy netting another in the 71st minute to put the match beyond doubt.
Vardy – who formerly toiled away in the lower leagues before getting the call up to the top grade – has experienced a meteoric rise this season, with talks of a Hollywood movie in addition to a bumper new contract.
For Liverpool, it continues their sub par 2016. Jurgen Klopp’s men have lagged in mid-table since Christmas, pulling precious few points in a Premier League season they had a chance at winning after their annihilation of Manchester City back in October.
Leicester overturned their 1-0 loss in the first round fixture – only the second loss of the season for the Foxes. Indeed, Claudio Ranieri’s men turned the table on Liverpool in their style of play, consistently pressuring the visitors into defensive errors with fast counter pressing.
Leicester take on Manchester City next week, giving them a chance to go further on top of the Premier League ahead of their clash with Arsenal in a fortnight. As for Liverpool, they head to relegation-threatened Sunderland and will want to perform well in a bid to salvage their their European hopes.
