World Anti-Doping Agency President Craig Reedie says the public’s confidence in sport has hit an all-time low in the wake of match fixing scandals, corruption and drug cheating.

Reedie singled out 2015 and the start of 2016 as a worrying sign for the future of sport.

“The public mood has soured, cynicism has prevailed and there’s a general feeling that they’re all at it (cheating),” Reedie said.

The WADA President said if the world is serious about stamping out doping and systematic cheating, more funding is needed.

“I’ve heard calls to take a slice of the millions of dollars that are paid for sport television revenue to be provided to the anti-doping cause.”

“This is a bold idea and I put it to sports Federations and broadcasters. Now is the time to look at this seriously.”
