Springboks forced to dig deep as Pumas fall just short of mighty upset
South Africa have managed to grind out victory in a "proper Test match", edging Argentina 22-21 in their final Rugby Championship fixture at Ellis…

Wins over Italy and France leaves Argentina in great position to secure three straight wins in the June Test window.
While they have struggled to play consistent rugby for 80 minutes, the Pumas are still getting the job done against established Six Nations opposition who are understrength.
With that said, the Pumas have shown enough in attack over the past fortnight to suggest that they will secure their third straight Test victory.
Gone are the days where the Pumas would rely on their forward play to secure tight wins over more illustrious opposition. Now, Argentina are employing a southern hemisphere-inspired style of rugby that is responsible for their rise up the world rugby hierarchy.
Argentina scored three tries against France last week, all of which were made possible because of the free-flowing rugby that the national team currently employs since their introduction into the Rugby Championship.
For all their enterprising play with the ball however, Argentina still need to learn how to play the percentages properly. The Pumas continue to take far too many risks in their own half of the field, and such tactics do not bear fruit against established superpowers Australia, South Africa and New Zealand.
If Argentina wants to further establish their place as a rugby power, they need to begin playing percentage rugby, starting with today’s Test against France. Do that and they will continue to grow as a team, let alone defeat the French.
