In what will never be described as a great game the Demons did just enough to get over the Suns at the MCG.

The Demons were sloppy for the larger part of the game and it almost cost them after Lynch took a mark with seconds to spare, luckily for the Demons he missed the kick.

The Suns were not at their best either but for good portions of the game they had complete control.

The first quarter was all one way with the Suns starting out strong, kicking the first 3 goals of the game, and taking a 12 point lead into the first break.

Melbourne came out in the first quarter really flat and lethargic struggling to do much with the ball.

The second quarter was much better for Melbourne and they took control in the quarter to lead going into the major break by 12.

Lynch was the standout for the Suns in the first half while Max Gawn was proving impossible to stop for the Demons.

A lackluster third term was mainly dominated by the Suns but with both teams making some poor skill errors – Melbourne probably the bigger culprits of the two teams.

It wasn’t until after the siren that the Demons kicked their first goal of the term. Gold Coast had only kicked two goals themselves that term but were looking like taking the momentum into the fourth.

Again the fourth was riddled with sloppy play from both sides, until the final ten minutes where Gold Coast really lifted and took the lead from the Demons. The Demons tried to lift themselves but were unable to get good ball usage.

With Gold Coast looking like they had all the momentum Chris Dawes was the lucky recipient of a free kick but missed the shot. The game evened up after that behind, with neither team able to really break each other’s line Melbourne was finally able to get something going and Jack Watts stood up for a team-lifting goal.

Watts then ran down the other end of the ground and stopped an almost a certain goal from Lynch. Bernie Vince turned the ball over to Lynch with very little time on the clock, Lynch took the shot for goal after the siren but it was offline.

The Demons were very lucky to win with some of their poor play but it was a perfect response to their heartbreak from last week, Gold Coast will be disappointed with the loss especially when they had a chance after the siren.

Next up for the Demons is the red-hot, ladder-leading Hawks while the Suns have just as big of a hard time playing the Giants.
