#GiveShaneAGo: A modern day Romeo and Juliet

Shane Warner has reminded Australia that romance isn't quite dead yet.

Shane Warne and Emily Ratajkowski. One is perhaps the sexiest person of the 21st century. The other is Emily Ratajkowski.

Australia hasn’t had a definitive power couple for many years, with the most prominent relationship in recent times being Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s 10-year marriage…and even they’re about to call it quits. Apparently.

The latest power couple to hit the scene is quite possibly the most controversial, with former cricketer/womaniser/botox user/hair loss spokesperson Shane Warne going all out to win over Emily Ratajkowski by commenting on her Instagram selfie.

There are many who say that modern day romance is dead. There are many who say that there is no way the two can be together.

But this incident leads me to believe that there is still light at the end of this very dark tunnel.

In a segment of “The Sunday Jury,” panellists on Channel 9 went on to criticise the legendary Australian bowler for how he approached the 25-year-old model.

One panellist said that “it’s all a bit creepy.”

“He is like that guy at the end of the bar with all those cheesy lines and hoping one of them will work … and I don’t think they are working anymore.”

All a bit too ironic from the network at airs “Married at First Sight,” a show that forces two complete strangers to get married after being paired together by a neuropsychotherapist, relationship expert and psychologist.

Warne’s former wife Elizabeth Hurley immediately came to his defence, reminding Channel 9 that the 47-year-old is still one of their employees.

Warnie threatened legal action but was ultimately disappointed by how his own people have treated him, clearly the worst he’s experienced since being dropped in the Fourth Test of Australia’s 1999 Tour of the Carribean.

But could Shane Warne and Emily Ratajkowski maintain a successful relationship?

Haters will say Warne is out of Ratajkowski’s league, but if Russell Crowe can come back to the South Sydney Rabbitohs, then we all know any relationship is possible, no matter how toxic.

The pair could not be any more different, with Warne growing up in Ferntree Gully in Victoria while Ratajkowski was born into the highlife of Westminster, England.

While Shane was (probably) wrestling crocodiles by the age of nine, Ratajowski has been forced to deal with flashing lights and constant media attention due to her stunning good looks.

The star-crossed lovers may never end up together, but it would certainly be a match made in heaven.

Warnie loves the spotlight and that’s something the Ratajkowski can give him.

But alas, the power couple Australia truly needs may never come to fruition and we may be perpetually stuck in a state of lull, where the closest any of us get to true love is Phil Gould’s pre-State of Origin pump up speech.

O Warnie, Warnie, where art thou?
