Australian footy fans are in for a treat this grand final weekend, with hilarious radio duo Roy Slaven and HG Nelson announcing they will broadcast the ‘Festival of the Boot’ for both the AFL and NRL deciders.

The veteran broadcasting pair, who are perhaps known best for their long-running weekend radio show ‘This Sporting Life’ and ‘The Dream’, their show covering the Sydney Olympics in 2000, will be back on the airwaves this weekend, starting with their commentary of the AFL grand final on Saturday and finishing with the NRL decider a day later.

Both Roy and HG plugged the upcoming broadcasts in typical fashion.

“It’s poultry in motion versus who let the dogs out in Festival of the Boot 2016! Join us for the bounce and stay for The Cavalcade of Cash!” said Nelson.

“It’s Leda versus Pluto, Jaws versus Rain, Squawks against Woof, Feathers and Fur, Teeth and Lightning. You are the winner in the Boot this weekend!”

Slaven was slightly more restrained than his broadcast partner. But not by much.

“You’d be mad not to get involved with football at this time of year, because there’s so much money to be made! Put some money on, doesn’t matter if you win or lose you’re involved!”

For those of you not too keen on hearing Channel Seven’s commentary, headed up by Bruce McAvaney and Dennis Cometti, for the AFL grand final, Roy and HG’s coverage will kick off at 2:00pm (AEST) on October 1 on ABC News Radio.

The NRL coverage will start at a day later 6:00pm (AEDT), also on ABC News Radio.

With all of that out of the way, why not get in the mood for the ‘Festival of the Boot’ with some of Roy and HG’s finest work.
