West Tigers have granted Curtis Sironen a release of from the remaining two years of his contract with the club in an amicable split as he sets off for Manly.

The son of former Tigers legend Paul Sironen played just eight games for the club this season and spent most of the year dropping in and out between first grade and the NSW Cup.

The 23-year-old debuted for the club back in 2012 as a big prospect for the future but has fallen away with injuries and form in recent times.

The release came after a lot of speculation about a possible move to Manly for the 2017 season and beyond.

The Sea Eagles have since confirmed picking up the young forward on a two-year deal as they seek to reinvigorate his career.

Sironen racked up 65 games for the Tigers across his five years with the club, as well as three games for City Origin in the annual representative fixture against Country.

He spent a lot of time in the NSW Cup in 2016 but has spoken of his desire to get back to his best form and play in the top flight.

“I want to be playing first grade. When I spoke to [Manly coach] Trent [Barrett] for the first time, he won me over straight away with his enthusiasm,” Sironen said.

Barrett was buoyed by the signing and said Sironen was a great acquisition for the club.

“He is an experienced player, Curtis. He is a big edge back-rower with plenty of ability,” Barrett said.

“Curtis can play through the line, before the line, and he has got a kicking game. He is what we were looking for and we were really fortunate that this opportunity to secure him came about late.”

Tigers coach Jason Taylor gave his best to the second-rower as Sironen moves forward in what is still a young career.

“Curtis has shown commitment on and off the field during his time at Wests Tigers,” Taylor said.

“I wish him all the best in the future and would like to thank him for his efforts during his 65 game career with Wests Tigers.”

It’s not fully known where Sironen might shape up in the Sea Eagles’ side for the start of next season, but his versatility leaves him open to plenty of game time across the park.

While mostly a second-rower, he’s also lined up at lock and even five-eighth.
