Match preview:

Australia look to keep their perfect run alive at the Four Nations this morning as they tackle an England side needing to win to keep their hopes alive in the tournament. Catch all the live scores, highlights and action from 1am (AEDT) on The Roar.

Australia has secured top spot in the standings and a place in the final next week thanks to an incredible performance by the Scottish to draw with the Kiwis on Saturday.

The draw also opens the door for England, who currently sit one point behind New Zealand and need to avoid a loss to force a rematch with the Aussies in the final.

Their points difference means a draw will be enough to get them through, but they have a stern Australian side and an uphill fight in their way.

Australia has been the team to beat and the measuring stick in the Four Nations this year, comfortably passing Scotland and staving off a resilient New Zealand challenge to remain title favourites.

England have had a slightly more bumpy road to the last round game of the tournament.

A heartbreaking one-point loss to New Zealand was a disappointing start to their campaign, and they backed that up with a less than stellar opening half to the Scotland fixture.

They would run away with the game in the second half despite carrying just a four-point lead into halftime, leaving a lot of nervous home fans in the crowd.

Coach Wayne Bennett will be a massive key for the English, despite the veteran coach being less than pleased with his side’s performances and having to do media commitments.

The beef between himself and Aussie coach Mal Meninga has been a distraction for both teams throughout the tournament, but will finally come to a head as the two collide today.

Bennett’s knowledge of the Queensland and Brisbane contingent will be a bonus for the host nation and a real key to shutting down the halves and winning the battle of the forward packs.

Form won’t be the only factor on Australia’s side coming into this one, history also points to a tough game for the Poms.

Australia have won the last ten games on the trot against England and haven’t tasted defeat against the old enemy for 21 years.

Team News
Meninga has played around with the Aussie squad during the campaign and may continue to do so with the result of this game inconsequential to their final appearance.

Sam Thaiday has been cleared to play after nursing a knee injury during the week.

He’ll join Dragons pair Josh Dugan and Tyson Frizell in the side, slotting in at centre and on the bench respectively.

For England, Bennett will welcome the return of James Graham from a knee injury of his own.

Prediction
England have everything to play for in this one and have plenty of emotion fuelling them in front of a passionate home crowd.

Bennett will have plenty of inside knowledge of the opposition and will want to beat his home nation and Meninga more than any other fixture.

Australia have been unbeatable in the tournament though, and it will take a huge performance to topple the favourites.
