Match preview:

Adelaide United are looking to build off their maiden win of the season when they make the trip north to tackle a Brisbane Roar side trying to solidify their spot at the pointy end of the ladder. Catch all the live scores, highlights and action on The Roar from 5pm (AEDT).

Despite coming into the season as defending A-League champions, Adelaide United have had a horror start to their campaign, taking five losses and three draws before last week.

They finally registered a win against the Wellington Phoenix last week but remain on the bottom of the ladder a long way into their title defence.

Brisbane on the other hand are sitting pretty in the top four with a chance to skip five points ahead of Perth Glory with a win this afternoon.

Despite their positioning and just one loss so far this season, they’ve only had three wins in the opening nine rounds and have struggled to finish off their opponents when it counts.

The Roar have sensationally finished their last four games in a row as one-all draws, including a grinding stalemate against today’s opponent in Round 6.

Considering they’ve won just a single game this season, Adelaide come into this contest without an away win since the final round of last season earlier this year.

All eyes will be on Adelaide’s key striker Henrique as he comes up against his former club for the first time after making 136 appearances for the Roar.

Team News
The home team have come through uhnscathed from last week, keeping the same side that drew with Melbourne City with the additions of Connor O’Toole and Joey Katebian to an extended matchday squad.

For Adelaide, coach Guillermo Amor will be without Isaias after the Spaniard received his fifth yellow of the season last week.

They will be welcoming back two big names from injury.

Sergio Cirio comes back from a two-month absence after recovering from a knee injury, while Michael Marrone makes his long awaited return to the side after snapping his achilles during Adelaide’s Grand Final win last season.

George Mells also comes in for the reds in an extended squad.

Prediction
Adelaide have been far from impressive early into their first title defence but they’ve shown plenty of promise in the last few weeks and look to be rising off the bottom of the ladder.

Brisbane, while shaping up into a strong position, have lacked a certain x-factor so far this season that’s kept them from being up there with the best sides in the league.

This could be another intense, physical and grinding affair between these two sides and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the same result.

1-1 draw
