Nah he was just echoing Cowan’s comments which mentioned White and Bailey, as they are still in the game but nearing the end.

Perhaps they should be groomed as selectors, since they will be retired soon enough?

Justin Langer should stand down as a national selector

I had this thought too, an XI objectively picked by all the state coaches. That would get you close to your best XI on merit.. but it doesn’t account for the cohesion and effectiveness of the XI as a team, personalities etc. Sounds good on paper but wouldn’t work.

My concern is what sort of message that sends to Kurtis Patterson, Daniel Hughes and Jake Lehmann who have several years of shield runs behind them to validate their selection.

Will has been picked on Puctential and needs to be worn into the shield, I wish him the best but I still prefer merit to potential.

Just let Will Pucovski be Will Pucovski

A force of women’s cricket. When you have Devine and Bates opening, and miss finals.. jeez you need to fix your bowlers! (finals still a slim hope)

Cuthisarminhalf?

Three changes confirmed in new-look Australian squad to play Sri Lanka

Richardson looks way more dangerous than Hazelwood, I think Tremain would do better too. I just don’t rate him that highly.. that being said I’d be more likely to drop Starc.. his innacuracy is a huge liability in a game where pressure is key.

I saw a comment somewhere saying “if you want someone who bats time like Pujara, Renshaw is your man”.

I think it’s a smart selection, he’s had a horrid run to start the shield season but his county form proves he can deliver. I’d say he’s a lock to open with Harris. Labushagne keeping his place is the odd one, so many people getting shat on by that selection. Patterson, Lehmann, Hughes, Cooper, Maxwell etc.

Our bowlers failed big time last series, they can’t maintain their place on reputation alone. I’d think at least one of the big 3 should be held accountable, and someone from the shield (tremain or J-richo, not sids) should be given the opportunity to prove themselves.

Burrrn. Behrendorff would’ve usurped Starc by now in my opinion if he wasn’t so injury-riddled.

The difference in the India series was Pujara.. our bowlers couldn’t get him out, whereas their bowlers could get out our “set” batsmen. You have to reward Shield form, Starc and Hazelwood are certainly droppable. Something has to give.

Personally I’d also like someone like Ahmed in the squad (or a similarly performing shield leggie). Tremain is a no-brainer (I still think Boland is underwhelming and his wickets are easy ones).

Chris Tremain and Jhye Richardson must play Sri Lanka Tests

Have you watched him since his comeback? He bowls like Stoinis now, he would no longer work as an attacking option.

I don’t think Will should be picked ahead of Patterson, Lehmann, or Hughes who have some consistent runs behind them.

Revealed: Australia's Test XI to face Sri Lanka (as chosen by the fans)

People kept bagging the batters, but I feel that when a set batter gets out, it’s mostly good bowling.

I think our bowling was to blame. Picking Labushagne as a spinner, and playing him at #3 with zero batting form was absolutely shocking.

As far as spinners go, with SOK being out of favour, and Swepson bowling pies… surely Ahmed, on the back of his past couple of shield seasons is the next spinner in?

I’d definitely drop Starc, and possibly Hazelwood.. I just can’t see how the guys getting wickets in shield couldn’t do a better job. They need to be given a shot. Tremain and Richardson are the obvious picks to me (Sayers, Worrall being injued and Behrendorff being a long form liability do not help) Mennie and Bird not far off after those two.

VOTE: Pick your Australian XI to play Sri Lanka

Marnus better grind out runs in the way that got him selected in the first place. I had eyes on him and Heazlett for a couple of seasons.

To put him in for his spin is utterly stupid, he’s a part timer, probably not even as good as Trav Head.

Whose wife did Maxwell sleep with? Just gets ignored. The selectors live in their own little world, segregating him in white ball wonderland, ignoring his great body of work in the severely limited amount of First Class games he’s allowed to play for Victoria.

Joe Burns or Callum Ferguson also, would be better value than Shaun Marsh.

…but the player AUS really need is Michael Klinger. A true grinder of runs, ignore his horrendous start to the BBL 😛 What happened to having an opener pair of aggressor/accumulator? Harris is a good Warner replacement, but I think he should be opening the batting with Khawaja.

If this were a timeless Test, Cheteshwar Pujara could bat until July

So many Redbacks </3
Ferguson would do fine at test level if picked again, Mennie would do as well as Hazelwood imo too 🙂

Le'BushStain looked like a reasonable alternative to Maxwell with bat and ball a couple of years ago but has hit a downturn in form.

The retread XI

Get him back in the T20I team!!! #klingtoklinger 😀

Amazing Klinger runout not enough as Renegades break hoodoo against Perth

because he’s been playing T10 so his slogging will be on point, just like Pujara playing county had him firing in this test series 😉

Why your team will succeed or fail in BBL|08

I think Shaun Marsh’s and Tim Paine’s ill fated pull shots were arguably worse, at least the ball Head went after was wide.

Travis Head's inexcusable error could cost Australia victory

Don’t think Weatherald is ready for long form. I’d test him in ODI/T20 teams first.

Burns to cover Finch, Ferguson/Patterson if they don’t want an allrounder replacing Handscomb.

Travis Head's inexcusable error could cost Australia victory

He’s looked very good, more composed than most would’ve guessed.. apart from his bloodlust for that megaslash outside off! Lefty fever.

Travis Head's inexcusable error could cost Australia victory

The Strikers won on virtue of their miserly bowling I think.

Sure people like Carey and Weatherald stood up with the bat, but their bowling was the difference.
I think Ben Laughlin is a better bowler than Andrew Tye, Siddle was surprisingly good last season too.

Big Bash power rankings: Week 1

Ah good, I heard he got a back injury in south africa, glad he’s back playing in time for BBL.. time to dominate, then make an unlikely return to T20I’s #klingtoklinger 😛

Big Bash power rankings: Week 1

Short has proved he’s only really useful in T20’s at this stage. Bailey past it. Lynn and NCN are walking injuries that aren’t worth the gamble.

Being a Redbacks fan I have my eye on Weatherald/Ferguson/Lehmann for batting spots.

The four players who'll be using the JLT Cup as a World Cup audition

At least force the sub to be made at half time or earlier, so the poor player gets some game time rather than benchwarming.

AFL should scrap sub rule: Crows coach

I don’t get this “top order” or “middle order” pidgeonholing..

Surely it’s all superficial. If they can bat, they can bat!

Middle order batsman eventually get fired upon by the strike bowler when a new ball is called for, if they last long enough.

Hamstrung Clarke may miss entire series against India
