I agree with most of what you say. But Suaalii is highly likely to be good enough. If he is as good a player as, say, Perese, but he brings another thousand punters through the door every time he plays and 20 or more headlines a year, then he is worth a lot more than Perese is to the sport. See Israel Folau and Karmichael Hunt’s AFL careers for example.

In those days you could play rugby and have a career. Now you can’t.
RA reeling and facing a mass exodus of biggest stars - there are three key reasons why they're in peril
If senior rugby stars are truly questioning Suaalii’s pay they need a good talking to about life and economics. He has garnered more headlines and public attention in his rugby career than Perese, Petaia and Jorgensen put together, and he hasn’t even played a game yet.
In professional sport, you get paid for your value. Most times, but not always, your value is related to how good you are. But it is also related to the PR that you bring and the bums-on-seats that you create.

I still dont understand the love for Jock. Two weeks running he has dropped a short pass with the tryline wide open. He also dawdled on McKenzie’s kick through, and put pressure on Suli with a loopy inside pass.

It was an absolute no-arms shoulder first hit. Amazing that it wasn't penalized more harshly.
'Over the moon': Reds deny Chiefs for 23 PHASES to win 'titanic' trans-Tasman clash as Kiss' revolution continues
If the Reds keep winning, the crowds will come. 2005 – 2008 the ycrowds were terrible, then in 2009 – 2012 they were good, regularly outdrawing the Broncos. Since then years of poor teams has seen them drop off again. But Queenslanders like winners.

He played 80 for Queensland regularly.

It’s the first time the Reds will have played an international side since smashing Scotland 41-5 at Ballymore.
Ah, no. The Reds played the British and Irish Lions in 2013. A Quade Cooper masterclass almost saw them pull off a victory.

Controversial penalty try. No. Close, yes, unfortunately, yes, unavoidable, probably. But nothing controversial about a correct interpretation of the laws.

He is a form and confidence player, and he was well short of both at the RWC. There is no disputing the fact that he was ordinary in Europe, but I’m hoping it isn’t a permanent drop off.

The old saying – form is temporary, class is permanent. Green was omitted from the Test side after he strained his hamstring. Marsh has played undroppable cricket since he got his chance. If Marsh was not in form or if he was injured, Green would be straight back in. As to the “bloke who played 4 Tests as a fast bowler” – surely if you appoint a coach you have to back him to make team decisions?
Giving Green light to opener experiment could work - but that doesn’t mean it’s the right option
We should look at the bright side. If everyone except Australia stops playing test cricket, we will be World Champions! If it happens soon we will get to hold the WTC trophy for ever.
If everyone except Australia and England stop playing test cricket, we can have two Ashes series every year. Not sure if the Barmy Army travel budget will get them to the MCG every Boxing Day, but maybe a recorded chant or two will suffice.
If its only Australia, India and England, it will get a little trickier. Mainly because the Indians are really good, and they sometimes want to have a say in what is best for Australian World cricket. But I’m sure we can make something work.

After you break a camel’s back, you can re-use the straw. You just have to grab them before RA builds their new centralised model.
'Everyone's in the hunt': RA won't rule out stunning Wallabies return after Cheika departs Argentina role
The whole premise of this article is laughable. As an example, this paragraph:
So let’s lay this out. The Brumbies, Rebels and QLD have initially said ”no” to a centralised model. Then they have the audacity to extend their cap to Rugby Australia for funding.
The Brumbies, Rebels and Qld haven’t said “no” to a centralised model. They have said no to the proposed centralised model penned by the bunch of Shore old boys who currently control the subsidiary of NSW rugby that passes for Rugby Australia.
And asking for funding isn’t “audacity”, its the way the system is supposed to work. Money from broadcasting, including Super Rugby, and money from the Wallabies games and sponsorship comes in and is disbursed.
Super Rugby clubs want a handout? That's a disgrace, the game is already broke

Great article, thanks. Analysis that I have wanted to do for a long time, but been too lazy busy. You ruined one of my theories though, I always thought that Cheika’s constant refereeing complaints were one of our recent root causes.

Sporting quotes of 2023: The Eddie Jones train wreck and Bairstow stumping lead a bumper year for outlandish comments
Australian rugby has a massive discipline problem. Part of this stems from the ‘it’s only illegal if you get caught’ mentality that is a cultural mainstay here. Part of it comes from coaches like Cheika who complain about referees as a matter of course. But the worst type of problem is the ‘red mist’ problem. As much as Swinton showed enormous promise, I always feared he wasa risk in all 3 categories.

Faessler was incredible last year, particularly his lineout accuracy. This year if there is one thing that worries me about the Reds it is that the lineout has gone astray. Hopefully they can recapture 2023’s accuracy without sacrificing all the other gains they have made.
