I have it on good authority that (Deep) Frier wont play. His back is gone and has done virtually no contact work or anything more than walking/jogging.

Robinson is a big chance to be starting hooker.

I like the look of the backline, big and strong but is not blessed with out and out pace. Defensively cant see many holes which is always the best place to start. Halfback is a real toss up at present. Kingi played well in first trial I saw.

Macqueen close to finalising his starting 15

No that was SF

Any outsiders to make Wallabies Spring Tour?

If Geelong win then they top both NM and Brisbane for greatness.

Look at their home and away record during the dominant period. It is truly dominant. I dont think Brisbane ever won the minor premiership did they? Port won it 2 or 3 times in the years Brisbane won the GF. Geelong are also doing it without salary cap concession unlike Brisbane who were well looked after in that regard.

A Geelong dynasty or just a dominant team?

Depending on fitness AUS must give some young locks a run on this tour. Guys like Kimlin and Douglas need a run to see if they are up to it. Also Simmons should be starting. Drop Dean Mumm we know what he can and cant do. Give him the tour off and show him he needs to step up or his RWC dream is over…

In the backs 12 is still far from settled with numerous options, though Deans has been unwilling to go outside Gits and Barnes in essence. AF got one shot and then was leap frogged by Barnes. Toomua and Lealifano are both deserving of a spot from what I have seen of them. AT least they could be options as back ups.

Not sure what the policy is on guys coming back from OS. If they are eligable (and why wouldnt they be with signed contracts to pay in AUS) then that opens up a whole new can of worms.

I was staggered people were having a go at Genia. He killed Weepu IMO who was doing his best Gregan impersonation. I havent seen WGs tackle count but it would have been bloody high. Kicked well also and threw the last pass for 2Dads try.

Presenting the 2010 Tri Nations awards

Mumm should have his papers stamped… Never to play again.

Why is Giteau still kicking for Wallabies?

Thanks Sheek – very interesting.

As you suggest Carroll is at the right age and has some experience. Aside from JON and RO he is really the only one on that list with commercial admin experience.

The two names for mine that would be intriguing are at the bottom. Eales as a future (or is he already) President or Chairman. Pat Howard has always struck me as pretty bright and an excellent thinker. I have no idea about his credentials for an administrative post though.

Once again, Wallabies rue the one that got away

Sheek – Oakley’s age is/was my only concern from a propsective employers POV. I have little idea what impact that would have on his application (if he is even interested down the track).

I am not sure Carrol is up to the task. From what I have seen and heard he is a JON yes man who has not stepped outside his mentor for any period of time and achieved much of anything. It really put me off the way he followed JON to FFA and then returned to ARU. It smacked of “OK JON whatever you think is best for me I will do” Rather than an attitude of “No I have some goals of mine I would like to achieve or the job isnt finished I am going to see it through”.

Time will tell…

Once again, Wallabies rue the one that got away

Chasing RWC glory is doing the game in AUS more harm than good, regardless if they were to win it next year or not.

Wallabies are still number 2, unfortunately

Brett – Unrelated question coming up. You may have seen Ross Oakley is now in charge of the Rebels.

If JON only opts for a short term extension (as has been mentioned) I think Oakley could be a fantastic CEO for AUS rugby. He has a proven track record as CEO of the VFL/AFL and was a major factor in the VFL expansion. He also would have a thorough understanding of whatis necessary to improve the grass roots of the sport.

Either way it is a major coup from the VRU/Rebels to have him as a full time adminstrator.

Once again, Wallabies rue the one that got away

Hayes would be in my team everyday, the bloke is a dead set GUN!

The All-Australian selectors get it right, mostly

Courage and faith Sheek.

Once again, Wallabies rue the one that got away

And how many Tests had Slade, Vito and Cruden played?

Once again, Wallabies rue the one that got away

Brett we all knew that the fatigue factor would be huge for the Wallabies going into the last quarter of the match.

Did the AUS coaching panel leave players on the bench that could have provided much needed energy? You bet they did…again.

I agree with MOC, Henry did another number on Deans.

Once again, Wallabies rue the one that got away

A lack of subs getting on the pitch yet again. We really shouldnt be surprised by that though with the 3 blind mice in the coaching box.

Why is Giteau still kicking for Wallabies?

Sheek – my point is that there are options (though many believe we lack depth) available and Deans and his cohorts have been painfully slow to make necessary changes to under performing players.

Why did it take so long to blood McCalman then? Why did he not get Edmonds on the pitch on Saturday. He is a fantastic late sub to bring on, plenty of energy and ability to beat a man or offload. Why does he continue to have a horrible bench that he under uses? No outside back sub yet we have 8 guys who can play 9/10/12. Isnt that a little over kill?

I wish there were some decent rugby journalists who would ask what are fair and valid questions. To say he doesnt have to answer to the public is a little mystifying. Its a national sporting team isnt it? At some point the public would like to hear the reasoning behind some of his woeful decision making.

You say he isnt a total idiot and thats fair enough. As a selector and match day coach he aint great on the efforts of his Wallaby tenure. He may well be a good day to day coach but on the above criteria I think he and his assistants are failing.

I agree he shouldnt be doing what most Roarers suggest, where did I say he should. There are some on here with foresight.

This team is improving but we are losing matches that are emminently winnable! That hurts…

Wallabies are still number 2, unfortunately

LAS – I think if you look back he has been with the Aussies a little while and most would argue their skills have been below average for some time. The main ingredient in the passing is Quade Cooper,…

Graham hasnt impressed me with his improving of player skills nor as someone who has creative and analytical thinking about the game when he is interviewed.

Graham to go fulltime with Force

Sheek most people thought Brown was the only option at 8 with Palu out. The wise judges on here knew McCalman could stand up. Why is 12 different?

I would suggest that Cooper and Genia need more strike runners off them. At one stage I think we had 4 or 5 10/12s running around. Its ridiculous.

Why did Moore play the whole 80? Dean Mumm still does SFA and Simmons is left out. We took off the best player on the Park in McCalman. Why not play Rocky in the 2nd row and bring Brown on at 6?

Blind Freddie knew that Aus needed to score more points when the ABs made their run. Yet for whatever reason we had Gits, Barnes and Cooper on. We need more strike runners and impact in defence. AF sit on the bench twiddling his thumbs.

2 Test in Africa and a 3rd after a plane trip home and how many minutes did the 7 reswerves play in total? Not enough is the obvious answer.

People are surprised we got run over the top late. I dont know bl00dy why, it was always going to happen!

Wallabies are still number 2, unfortunately

Quick to jump off the wagon are some. I suggest you look at the game in its entirety. Note the excellent kciking game from Cooper and do you realise that Genia had two crucial roles in the lead up to AAC try or did you go to the fridge at that time?

Wallabies are still number 2, unfortunately

Non factor? I thought his kciking was generally excellent. He is maturing and learning that he also needs to guide his team around the park with the boot at times as well as using a passing/running game.

QC is always going to be critised unfairly now if he doesnt make or set up 6 line breaks per macth. Its unrealistic.

Wallabies are still number 2, unfortunately

It would help if the drop kicks in charge would make use of the bench (albeit unbalanced )!

Wallabies are still number 2, unfortunately

I agree that you cant JUST rely on winning but in a saturated market and what has been a poor product until this year then it sure helps!

See my post under OJ above about another reason the game is struglling here…

Rugby is a dying game in Australia

We still have Maafu starting, Mumm on the bench, two ICs on the bench and no outside back reserves.

Brilliant Robbie, brilliant!

All Blacks make five changes

Fussball – Not sure which way you are going – on one hand saying no one believes that WC will change the sport uch in AUS and then at the end you say it is ill-informed to have that opinion.

I think quite a few people think a WC it will turn the game in this country on its head.

The after affects of the WC will be much smaller than you are apparently already sprouting…

The knife gets stuck into the FFA hard and justifiably

No doubt its a bigger event in terms of the all mighty dollar and the influx of tourists but it still goes for a month or 6 weeks and then it is over.

Having a Gov spend money on it wont change the fact that 18 months after the event it will be nothing but a memory. Sydney Olympics anyone?
