Doesn’t Ireland rugby face competition from hurling, Gaelic football and soccer?
I think it’s amazing what they do, considering.
Chasing stability over pipedreams and rent-a-quotes - why RA chose an 'Ordinary Joe' to move on from Eddie as Wallabies coach
The Netherlands are moderately good at cricket and rugby through a mix of home-grown players and family imports. T20 shows it’s a level playing field across the world. Any team can win on a given day thanks to a good batting or bowling performance. Cricket will grow in Netherlands, Ireland and Scotland because of T20.

The game looked like it was played on a paddock in the middle of nowhere before a country football-type crowd.
Canada has definitely lost ground while USA seems to be on the cusp of realising its rugby potential.
Russia looked solid.
Canada just don’t deserve to be in the Rugby World Cup
Victoria used to produce occasional Wallabies in the amateur era. It just takes a good selector to spot talent at any level. The AFL scouts do this extremely well.
A reality TV show could do some of the hard work for S15 recruiters.
Australia's Next Top Rugby Team
The train would have been the best way to get there, plenty of leg room, dining car, etc. It left Southern Cross station at midday, arrived Wangaratta 2.45pm. The game should be declared a forfeit, points to St Kilda.

Isn’t the Sevens circuit paid for from RWC earnings? That’s elevated the game in countries like Kenya and Sri Lanka, and secured Olympic status.

Pocock's demolition of 'Boks shouldn't be overlooked
With rugby becoming an Olympic sport, the US should be in a position to host the 2023 World Cup, with perhaps some games in Canada and Argentina.
Who will be World Cup hosts in 2023?
Agree with the “club” being named Victoria. The same as the Waratahs and Reds.
Waldron resigns from Rebels
South Melbourne’s move might push FFA to introduce an Australian FA Cup-style competition before there’s an exodus of state league clubs to Asia.
FFA focus on World Cup at expense of local leagues
The AFL should never have abandoned Princes Park as a venue, and it’s not too late to reconsider. It’s a 30,000 capacity ground within 5km of the CBD.
Looking at AFL options in the event of an Australian World Cup: Princes Park comes into play, AAMI Stadium (assuming Adelaide Oval is redeveloped, otherwise Adelaide Oval for AFL), the WACA ground (which used to host AFL), Kardinia Park, maybe even the Melbourne Showgrounds or Windy Hill.
How the NRL and AFL can work around a World Cup
JiMMM, agree that if more players and their families attended top-level matches as spectators that would be a starting point. Soccer has jumped that hurdle.
Fly on the Wall, interesting point about the cost and distance to play. I’m in Mount Gambier, we have a great hockey facility in the town and low fees, but I reckon about 150 people watched the men’s A grade grand final last year. There were more people at junior soccer finals.
As for media interest, I’m surprised the women’s team doesn’t get more. I estimate their coverage is much less than netball, which isn’t exactly a big spectator sport either.
Hockey deserves more support
It’s like every time the Fitzroy people feel on board, the Brisbane hierarchy do something to throw us overboard.
Fight to retain the Fitzroy Lion is worth it
So what value do you place on a legal agreement? None?

The Rebels will be good for Australian rugby. Victoria should have been admitted before Western Australia.
Victoria has a better chance of producing home-grown talent and attracting Pacific Islanders to live, stay and play.
I don’t think Queensland and NSW have as much to worry about with the Rebels as they did with the Force.
The idea of a draft for surplus players has merit though.
ARU must help Rebels for Aussie rugby's sake
When I was a kid my parents took me to St Moritz, where those 1960 old timers trained. Australia will never be an Olympic medal contender in ice hockey and taxpayers money should not be spent to change that.
Can Australian hockey make it back to the Winter Olympics?
How is this different to a reverse sweep? It requires skill to pull it off and there’s a risk of dismissal.
If a batsman switched midway through a bowler’s run-up the bowler can simply stop and start again, if he wants to.
I haven’t played cricket at a high level, but I can bat and bowl left and right handed.
Dave Warner is right, batting right or left-handed
vas, the format is the issue. People don’t want to spend eight hours watching a formulaic contest. They’re voting with their feet.
People who say it will improve next year with England here are in denial.
Modern spectators either want a quick result (20/20) or a test. Move on or perish.
Why fifty-over cricket must be saved
One day cricket is boring and formulaic. I started watching cricket in the mid 70s.
How can killing off one-day matches risk other cricket given it’s a recent innovation? We tried it, it worked for a while, now it’s failed. Move on or perish.
Why fifty-over cricket must be saved
My predictions are:
1. Germany
2. Australia
3. Netherlands
4. England
I expect Argentina to finish in the top eight.
It's nearly hit off in the Hockey World Cup
The size of the crowd must have been disappointing … season opener, prized derby and only 22,582.
Waratahs jubilant as Reds suffer harrowing defeat
It will be an important tournament for India. Soccer is making inroads there and, of course, the IPL is huge.
Rule changes since the previous World Cup that favor attackers should benefit the Indian players, especially self-pass from a free hit.
The World Cup is also an important test of Indian security and organisation ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
A short preview of the Hockey World Cup
If the Rebels can’t be saved, it’s important to have a strategy that keeps rugby alive in Victoria. There’s a proud tradition (eg Weary Dunlop), heritage in grammar schools, and now growth in the Pacific community.
I’d suggest the Brumbies should play five games a year in Melbourne, giving up two of their Canberra games and playing three “away” games against other clubs who give up one of theirs, rotating over a period of years.
