Adelaide look like they will be one of the favourites for next season, very promising.

Gombau starting to stick it to his doubters

Why is it a shame to be talking about this? The fact is, explosions were inside a sports stadium by absolute morons, just because it happens in South America does not at all make it any less wrong. It is exactly what is stopping the sport from growing in Australia.

And the explosions, what did you think of them?

Same thing happened to some of Dandenong’s fans. I doh’t like to punish innocent people but what happened last night cannot happen again.

Never have I seen flares shot out of a flare gun by Victory fans. I am quite sure that this is what was being used, not fire crackers. It was frightening.

I certainly would mate, screw the chaos at the shopping centres, going to watch live sport for the win!

So-called football fans' treatment of A-League disgraceful

Agreed, not much beats Friday night sport in the summer!!

Well said

I know that there was a game between Adelaide and Brisbane or Boxing Day and it had an attendance of over 11,000 so it definitely was effective. Not sure about previous years though.

It is inevitable that more and more people who have initially ignored the league will start becoming fans and it gives us original fans an even greater sense of achievement that one day we can look back and know that we were the beginning of something big. I’d be very surprised if this season’s attendances weren’t bigger than last year’s. It’s time for clubs like Wellington and Heart to start drawing some bigger crowds and with some exciting players signed for both clubs, it is likely.

Thanks for your feedback, yes great news during the week about Harvey Norman signing on for the Friday night games. Every year the league seems to do more and more right.

Definitely not the exception (anymore). I talk about the league all the time at school in general sport conversation and a fair few of the boys have actually started going to a few games. One mate used to go to games back in 06 and then pretty much stopped for 5 years for whatever reason is now beginning to go to games again. Most definitely am I confident of the growth of the game in the country. One only needs to look at participation at grassroots level and the number of people who now play the sport at school as well as the growing crowds, TV ratings to see the sport is definitely gong to continue to grow. And thank you for your compliments and feedback, much appreciated.

I’ve got a gut feeling that it;s going to be William Gallas, only because many people normally pretty much know who it is before the signing is made and lately he has been the only name being brought up.

Another probably big season coming up for you guys, like always.

Cheers TBG, knew it was somewhere around that mark. Justin, yep with the a growing potential audience like that it’s exciting times ahead.

Would be great for the league!

I am proudly 1 of those 18,000 members mate. Shaping up to be a big year crowd-wise for us and the league in general.

*football/soccer just to keep both people who call it either happy

I was either 9 or 10 years old at the time when we qualified for 06 and to be honest, I wasn’t aware of the sport’s professional existence until that time either. Being an Australian kid you’re brought, especially in Victoria, I was brought up with Aussie Rules (which I also love, I’m not a code hater) and it took something as significant as that golden generation of Socceroos for people like me to actually realise how much potential the sport has in this country. Regular qualification for World Cups will now only assist the stability of our growing league. It is becoming more and more apparent that football is becoming a major interest of kids these days. At school now, out on the oval and the soccer field, there are always about 4 different soccer games happening, not just the ‘ethnic kids’ either, everyone. Great times ahead, thanks for the feedback.

Thanks Bondy much appreciated Good on you! What team may I ask?

So-called football fans' treatment of A-League disgraceful

Thanks for the great feedback Mike, I definitely feel the same way. I love my mighty Victory but I also love the league and hope that all clubs will continue to grow because without other teams, there is no Victory. Also as much as I dislike Heart, I also hope they will continue to grow as the Derby will only get bigger than it already is. In 4 years when this new TV deal ends, who knows what is next in store for the league, might be 60 million dollars a season, maybe more, the sky is the limit.

Thanks for the feedback James, you’ve got the right attitude. Plenty of young talent i’m looking forward to watching this season. Goodwin, De Silva, Pain, Nabbout, Gameiro, Fenton, Sainsbury, Gibbs, Brown etc.

Looking forward to seeing how the league’s free to air TV ratings are this year. With no other codes competing for viewers until the Big Bash League starts, there is no reason why the league can’t skyrocket in popularity this season. Aussies love their friday night sport. The opening game between Sydney and Newcastle should easily break the league’s TV audience record for a single game which I believe is around 240,000 (for a grand final).

So-called football fans' treatment of A-League disgraceful

I agree with you mate, I believe the travelling giant should play a club rather than an All-Stars team, would give a better indication of where the league is at, also an extra bonus for the team that wins the grand final.
