Well the performance on the field will not improve then and will not show what the league is capable of on-field then. I think there is a fine line between the financial off-field success of the game and the amount of time the team is allowed to train together, therefore on-field success. I certainly still watched the game on Saturday as I would any other A-League match and was quite satisfied at full time after seeing us score a goal, however after seeing Melbourne’s performance on Wednesday, I feel that the league had a lot more of itself to show in the Manchester United game. Thanks for the feedback by the way 🙂
Man U, Liverpool games expose All-Stars concept as a shambles
Possibly, the name of the article should have been the ‘execution of the All-Stars concept’ rather than the overall concept. I think the concept has potential to work in terms of on field performance, but it was not executed to perfection this time time round, which is understandable seeing as this is only the first time they have done it.

The All-Stars game was obviously a financial success but I think it could’ve been done better. The voting process- good. The sell out crowd- good. The TV audience- good. But the time given fo the actual team to work together was not long enough. If this issue could be addressed for the coming All-Stars matches in the years to come, the game may also be of better quality.

I agree with you as most new things have teething problems however I think that in order to avoid a ridiculously one-sided game like the Man U game, the All-Stars team we put on the park needs significantly longer to train together to at least begin being on the same wavelength as each other. I also realise that Del Piero, Ono, McBreen, Zwaanswijk, Thompson, Rojas, Traore, Milligan were not available for the match, however I still think that the main issue that needs to be addressed if the performance from us wants to improve is the amount of time given to train together.

I agree with you Nick, I’m only starting to realise the quality television that SBS and ABC actually have to offer. It seems Channel 7, 9 and 10 will just do anything to create controversy to get ratings. Thanks for the feedback 🙂
Football is the talk of the town
Thanks mate, I’m actually not a Liverpool fan, but that quote is pretty much my life motto. I don’t follow oversea football religiously, however I do follow how Chelsea are going as they have my favourite player of all time, Franky Lampard!

Please note this is the first piece I had ever written, I am only 17 and trying to possibly get into a sport journalism course at uni and am just practicing, cheers

Nick, I believe Sydney FC held a similar tournament a few years ago in Sydney that involved Blackburn Rovers, AEK Athens and Glasgow Rangers. I love the idea of this as well and the attendance probably wasn’t as high as they would have hoped for but that was mainly due to horrible weather. However, I think in order for the big money to be made, teams like Liverpool and Man U must be brought here as well. Good idea though 🙂
