Australians can be a belligerent bunch, especially when it comes to sport. But when you scorn a football fan, hell hath no fury.

In the past, the fury was met with silence. Football fans had no voice and had to take their medicine like good little children.

However, times have changed, and the Internet and the success of the Socceroos means that the football family in Australia can move from the little kids table, to the big one where all the big kids sit.

I’m sure the letter-writing, the blogging, and the nasty comments on their Olympic website have contributed to Channel 7’s decision to move Wednesday’s crucial game to SBS at 9.45pm, where the network will give the game the proper coverage it deserves – such as no ad breaks and a commentator with knowledge of the game.

The people have spoken.
