More arrests and charges laid in NRL betting scandal

BREAKING: It is believed prominent player agent Sam Ayoub and former rugby-league star John Elias have been reportedly arrested and charged by NSW police over alleged offences relating to attempting to defraud betting agencies.

The names are yet to be confirmed, however, NSW police have confirmed that a 48 and 49 year old have been arrested and charged.

The crimes carry a jail sentence of up to 10 years

The news of the arrests come after Ryan Tandy pleaded not guilty to a charge over allegedly providing false information.

Reporter Jess Halloran is reporting the names of the two arrested men.

Today’s arrests follow investigations by police into an alleged illegal betting activity surrounding the Round 24 NRL match between the Bulldogs and the Cowboys

NSW police released a statement reporting that Casino and Racing Investigation Unit detectives arrested two men and laid additional charges against another in court, following investigations into betting allegations.

About 11am today, a 49-year-old man was arrested by police after he went to Campsie Police Station. Charges are expected to be laid.

Detectives are also currently executing a search warrant at a business premises on Hay Street in Leichhardt.

The implications are expected to be broad-ranging following the launch of the NRL season yesterday.
