Arsenal now has to adjust to life without star and former captain Cesc Fabregas, and from reports, Samir Nasri as well, with the French midfielder looking increasingly likely to make his big money move to Manchester City.

Wenger will also lose striker Gervinho and midfielder Alex Song, both picking up three-match suspensions after encounters with Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton.

Gervinho was given a red-card and Song was picked up by the match review panel.

Arsenal were a bit goal-shy with 0-0 draw with Newcastle in their opening week. Jack Wilshere, Abou Diaby and Kieron Gibbs will be out through injury.

But confidence will be boosted with a 1-0 win over Udinese in the Champions League qualifiers.

On the other and, Liverpool started the new campaign with a 1-1 draw with Sunderland.

The Reds should have won the game at least 2-1, but Suarez failed to hit target from the penalty spot. There were impressive debuts for Charlie Adam, Stewart Downing and Jose Enrique in the game.

Jordan Henderson started well but soon faded. There is a lot of hope and optimism around Anfield with Dalglish splashing the cash.

Steven Gerrard and Martin Skrtel missed through injury. They will have a stern test against Arsenal this week and for the big signings to step up.

The last season when these two met times ended up with 1-1 draws on both occasions with Kuyt equalising in the 12th minute in extra time in April. Rosicky snatched the equaliser in 90th minute of the match in August.

Result: Liverpool

It should be a tight game between two big teams. But with Arsenal losing Fabregas, and several key players to injury, I can’t see Liverpool losing. Especially with Dalglish having a full team at his disposal, being able to call on Charlie Adam, Lucas and Carroll.

Key player: Luis Suarez (Liverpool)

The energetic Uruguayan is at the top of his game. He will bring his energy to this Liverpool team, with his silky dribbling abilities and speed to beat defenders.

With Arsenal’s defence known for being fragile, expect Suarez to take it to them. With Charlie Adam and Stewart Downing supporting him, expect Suarez to have a big impact on this game.
