The Wallabies have scored another win over the weekend with the Tri Nations decider becoming the second most watched rugby Test match ever, with close to 1.5 million people tuning in across Australia.

Around 428,000 Pay TV viewers switched on to the Fox Sports broadcast, making it the third most watched program on subscription television in history.

Only the 2011 Super Rugby final (531,000 viewers, shown exclusively on Pay TV) and the 2009 World Cup qualifier between the Socceroos and Uzbekistan (431,000 viewers and also shown exclusively on Fox Sports) rated higher.

Free to air viewers on Channel Nine and GEM pushed this figure to just below 1.5 million viewers, making the overall rugby audience on the night surpassed only by the 2006 Bledisloe Cup Test in Brisbane.

Leading into the Rugby World Cup, the ratings will be a fillip for the code, with a stoush between Australian media and the IRB threatening coverage of World Cup games.
